- Thursday's first semi-final was only the second time that England and Sri Lanka played each other in Twenty20 internationals. The record now reads: England 1, Sri Lanka 1. Their only other meeting was at Southampton, in 2006, when Sri Lanka registered a narrow 2-run victory.
- Mahela Jayawardene, on 8, completed 300 runs in this edition of ICC WT20 the first batsman to do so. He ended the tournament with 302 runs, at 60.40, with one hundred and two fifties.
- Jayawardene is only the second batsman to aggregate 300-plus runs in a single edition of ICC WT20 after fellow-teammate Tillakaratne Dilshan, who had aggregated 317 runs in the 2009 edition.
- Kumar Sangakkara, on 5, completed 700 runs in Twenty20 internationals. He became the fifth batsman to do so after Brendon McCullum (1081), Kevin Pietersen (864), Graeme Smith (751) and Mahela Jayawardene (743). At the end of this match, Sangakkara's tally stands at 711 from 25 innings.
- Angelo Mathews (58) registered his highest score in Twenty20 internationals. His previous best was 46 against India at Gros Islet in Sri Lanka's last Super Eights game. He was run-out on that occasion too!
- Chamara Kapugedera made 16 off 27 balls at a strike rate of 59.25, which is the second lowest by any batsman (facing 25 balls in an innings) in this edition of ICC WT20 after Ireland's Gary Wilson (17 off 34 balls, SR 50.00 v West Indies, Providence, 30-04-2010).
- Kapugedera failed to score any run off 17 balls out of 27 he faced -- a dot percentage of 62.96, which is the highest for a Sri Lankan batsman (facing at least 25 balls in an innings). Sanath Jayasuriya had a dot percentage of 62.16 (23 dots out of 37 balls) against West Indies at the Oval on 19-06-2009.
- Craig Kieswetter and Michael Lumb put on 68 runs for the opening wicket -- England's highest opening partnership in this edition of WT20.
- Jayasuriya conceded two sixes in one over and was not given another bowl in the match. He has now conceded 17 sixes off his bowling in Twenty20 internationals. Among the spinners, only Pakistan's Shahid Afridi (20) and New Zealand's Daniel Vettori (18) have conceded more sixes.
- Jayasuriya holds the unique record of maximum sixes both with bat and ball for Sri Lanka. While his tally of 17 sixes is the maximum conceded by a Sri Lankan in T20Is, he has also hit 23 sixes from his bat- maximum by a Sri Lankan.
- Kevin Pietersen, on 9, completed his 500 runs in ICC WT20. He became the second batsman to aggregate 500 runs after Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene, who has an aggregate of 615 runs. At the end of this game, Pietersen's tally stands at 533 runs.
- Pietersen has now aggregated 168 runs in the last three innings, getting dismissed just once! He made 73* off 52 balls against Pakistan at Bridgetown on 06-05-2010, 53 off 33 balls against South Africa at Bridgetown on 08-05-2010 and 42* off 26 balls in this match (he missed the match against New Zealand on 10-05-2010).
- The win was England's fourth in consecutive matches -- their best run in this format of the game. Before this they had won three matches on the trot in 2008.
- Stuart Broad won his maiden Man of the Match award.
- England entered the final of ICC WT20 for the first time in three editions.
- It is also the first time since 2004 that England will be appearing in the final of a major ICC tournament. The last such occasion was in 2004 Champions Trophy at home when England played West Indies in the final (and lost).
