In 1998, Agarkar established a record for taking the fastest fifty wickets in ODIs, completing the tally in only his 23rd game.
His best performance in Tests was his match-winning 6 for 41 against Australia, at Adelaide, in 2003-04.
His finest performance with the bat in Tests was an unbeaten 109 against England, at Lord’s, in 2002.
In ODIs, his highest individual score was 95 against the West Indies at Jamshedpur in 2002-03.

“Ajit Agarkar served India with distinction for nearly a decade. On behalf of the BCCI, I congratulate him on a fine career, and wish him all the best for the future,” BCCI president N Srinivasan said.
“Ajit Agarkar did his best with bat and ball, every time he set foot on a cricket field. He had a memorable ‘first innings,’ and hopefully his ‘second innings’ will be as eventful. To him, I would like to say, “Well played, Ajit!,” said Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Sanjay Patel.
