Troubled Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has been ordered to explain himself to his country's cricket board after appearing on a television talk show.

"Under the terms of his contract he can't appear on any media show without first getting permission from the authorities. He has violated three clauses of his contract," a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official told Reuters.

The 33-year-old Akhtar has been given until July 31 to submit his response.

Akhtar said on the television programme that he had considered suing the PCB for releasing his medical report when he was ruled out of the squad in May for the World Twenty20.

His career has been plagued by fitness issues, disciplinary problems and controversies and last week he was left out of the squad for a five-match one-day series in Sri Lanka.
