Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur on Monday said action will be taken against team director Ravi Shastri if he is found guilty of reportedly abusing Mumbai Cricket Association curator Sudhir Naik following India’s defeat in the fifth and final One-Day International against South Africa on Sunday.
Hindustan Times on Monday reported that Shastri abused the curator of the pitch Sudhir Naik, a former India opener, for producing a wicket that offered hardly any assistance to the Indian spinners after India were beaten by 214 runs to lose the five-match ODI series 2-3.
“As for the BCCI taking action against anyone, whether it is a player or a member of the support staff if you remember the incident in Australia (Virat Kohli abusing a journalist), and in the last six months we have made it very clear that the rules and regulations are equal for everyone,” Thakur said in Mumbai.
“The same yardstick will follow in every case,” he further added.
Earlier this year, star batsman Kohli was reprimanded by the BCCI for abusing a journalist during the 2015 World Cup.
“The player in question has been told to maintain the dignity of the Indian team at all times, and avoid any such behaviour in the future," the BCCI had said then.
Thakur assured action against Shastri if he is found guilty after BCCI gets more details of the incident.
“We need to look at the details first; we can’t straightaway go to the action,” he claimed.
It remains to be seen if the Mumbai Cricket Association will file a complaint against Shastri for his alleged behaviour which will decide the further course of action by the BCCI.
