Vinit Indulkar and Amol Muzumdar hit centuries to put defending champions Mumbai in command against Andhra on the first day of the four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Division Group A match at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.

At stumps, the hosts were 305 for 3 in 90 overs. Nishit Shetty, included in the morning, despite not being in the squad chosen for the match, as a replacement for an indisposed Vinod Kambli, and skipper Sairaj Bahutule were unbeaten with 43 and 2 respectively at stumps.

One-down Indulkar notched his maiden century in the national championship to provide the much-needed impetus to the Mumbai first innings, after they won the toss and elected to bat, before retiring to the pavilion due to leg cramps after an unbeaten knock of 111, which included 16 fours.

Indulkar, who was at the crease at the fall of opener Vinayak Mane, who fell cheaply in the second over, stayed till tea in the home team's score of 211 for 2. He batted for 260 minutes and faced 287 balls.

Indulkar put on 162 runs for the third wicket with Muzumdar but could not resume his innings in the third session which brought the left-handed Shetty to the crease.

Muzumdar and Shetty added 87 further runs for the same wicket before the former was declared caught behind down the leg side, off a muted appeal, by umpire Vijay Chopra.

His knock included 15 fours and came off 197 balls, after a stay of 284 minutes at the wicket.

It was a good toss to win but Mumbai did not start well. Mane, who missed the earlier match against MP because of a bout of malaria, fell after scoring two.

Then Wasim Jaffer, who batted sedately, also fell cheaply for 16, and at 49 for two in the 21st over Mumbai were in a bit of bother.

However, Indulkar, who showed good attacking instincts especially after lunch, which was taken with Mumbai on 82 for 2 in 34 overs, and Muzumdar repaired the damage with their century stand.

Indulkar raced to his maiden ton with 14 boundaries and was unfortunate not to continue in the same vein because of leg cramps.

Kalyankrishna, who bowled only nine overs, picked the wickets of Mane and Muzumdar; the only other successful bowler was off-spinner Mohd Faiq, who sent back Jaffer.
