Opener Sagun Kamat scored only his second first-class century as Goa made 281 for four against hosts Kerala at stumps on the opening day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Group C match in Malappuram, Kerala, on Saturday.

Kamat scored his 107 runs off 212 balls during which he struck 13 boundaries and three sixes.

Apart from Kamat, wicket-keeper Manvinder Bisla scored a quick-fire 74 while Ravikant Shukla remained unbeaten on 44.

After opting to bat, Goa lost their first two wickets pretty early.

Kamat and Bisla then shared a 146-run third wicket stand to rally.

While Kamat played the role of a sheet-anchor, Bisla was at his attacking best and raced to his 74 off just 87 balls. Bisla laced his entertaining knock with seven hits to the fence and one six.

Sandeep Warrier, Perumparambath Anthaf, Chovvakkaran Shahid and Rohan Prem picked up a wicket each for the home team.

Brief Scores:

Goa: 281 for four in 85 overs (Sagun Kamat 107, Manvinder Bisla 74; Rohan Prem 1/29).

Services in command, bowl out Assam for 182

Medium pacer Suraj Yadav scalped four wickets as Services produced a lethal bowling display to bundle out Assam for 182 runs in their first innings at stumps on the opening day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Group C match in New Delhi on Saturday.

Yadav starred with the ball for Services with figures of 4-58, while Nishan Singh (2-34), Shahdab Nazar (2-40) and Yashpal Sinha (2-10) picked up two wickets apiece to spell doom for Assam.

Assam struggled miserably at the Palam ground as none of their batsmen could reach the 30-run mark. Four batsmen of the visiting team got starts but fizzled out in their 20s.

Opener Pallav Kumar Das (27), Tarjinder Singh (29), Rajdeep Das (26) and Dhiraj Goswami (22) all made decent stars but failed to prolong their stays at the crease.

In reply, Services were 11 for no loss with skipper Soomik Chatarjee batting on six while the other opener Praitk Desai retired hurt on four.

Brief Scores:

Assam: 182 all out in 78.3 overs (Tarjinder Singh 29, Pallav Kumar Das 27; Suraj Yadav 4/58).

Services: 11 for no loss (Soomik Chatarjee 6 not out).
