Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Karun Nair on a splendid triple-century against England in Chennai on Monday.
Twenty-five-year-old Nair struck an unbeaten 303 to help India post a mammoth 759/7 in reply to England’s 477 on Day 4 of the fifth and final Test.
“Congratulations on the historic triple century @karun126! We all are delighted & proud of your remarkable feat,” PM Modi tweeted.
Earlier, Virender Sehwag, who, until today was the only one Indian batsman to have scored a triple ton, also congratulated young Nair.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also congratulated Nair for scoring a triple century.
In a Facebook post, Vijayan wrote: "Let this achievement be an inspiration for him to climb more heights in his cricket career," Vijayan said.
