England discard Kevin Pietersen led the congratulatory messages for the triumphant England squad, posting his wishes on Twitter.

“Quite an unreal effort for England to win this Ashes series, but thoroughly deserved! The structure in place is a bloody good one! #BOOM x.”

“For the youngsters to shine the way they are & for Cook to look so relaxed - just brilliant! Couldn't be happier for this side!” he added.

England ripped out the last three Australia wickets for 12 runs to win the fourth Test by a crushing innings and 78 runs at Trent Bridge on Saturday and regain the Ashes.

One Suleman Modan ‏@Figjamfan tweeted this picture putting the whole match in perspective: “Lol..just knocked in ready to use.”

Among the other England cricketers to use the micro-blogging site to wish the team was Jonathan Bairstow.

“What a day, proud as punch! #Ashes2015,” he tweeted.

But there were lots of tweets trolling the Aussie team after their disappointing show.

One Joe Middleton ‏@middletonjbm tweeted: “I bet even Voges parents can't believe he is about to get an ashes 50… hussey used to bat 6.... #putinperspective.”

Another cheeky tweet from an Indian read: “Only way for Australia to combat Broad. They all must wear @YUVSTRONG12 masks when they come out to bat. #Ashes2015.”
