Kedar Jadhav (90 off 75 balls), who had helped India win the first ODI with a superb century, was on the verge of single-handedly taking his side to a memorable win as he hit a six and four in the first two balls of the final over but failed to rattle up the required 16 runs to lose the nail-biting match at the packed Eden Gardens. Check out the statistical highlights from the Kolkata ODI.

1 Virat Kohli suffered his first defeat on Indian soil as captain in his 20th match across all formats (12 Tests, 8 ODIs).

2 Number of Indian players to have scored a fifty and taken three wickets in the same ODI against England. Hardik Pandya joined Yuvraj Singh who has done so twice. Also the number of England players to have done the same against India! Ben Stokes joined Ronnie Irani.

37 Runs scored by Indian openers in the series – least they have made in a series (where team batted in at least three innings). The previous lowest run-tally was 73 against Pakistan in India in 2012-13.

5 Number of consecutive matches in which Ravichandran Ashwin has conceded 60 runs or more (since 2016) – a new Indian record. Umesh Yadav had conceded 60 (or more) runs in four consecutive innings in January 2016.  Incidentally Ashwin had never conceded 60 runs in two consecutive matches before 2016.

2090 Runs scored in the series – most in a three-match series. India made 1053, while England made 1037. The previous record aggregate in a three-match series was 1892 in Afro-Asian Cup 2007 between Asia XI and Africa XI.

6 Number of times teams posted 300+ totals in the series – first time this has happened in a three-match series. The 2007 Afro-Asian Cup had five 300+ totals in six innings.

1 England registered their first win at Eden Gardens in ODIs. They had lost all their three previous games here.

0 Number of batsmen who got out for a duck in the series from the either side!
