The preparation-cum-conditioning camp of Mumbai Indians for the forthcoming third edition of the Indian Premier League kicked off at the franchise's home venue, the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Monday.

The contingent, largely comprising domestic players, commenced the 18-day camp with the international cricketers slated to progressively join them on completion of their respective commitments.

The team's head coach Robin Singh, assistant coach Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach Jonty Rhodes are supervising the camp.

Commenting on the preparations, T A Sekar, director of cricket, Mumbai Indians, said that the camp was being held to prepare the team members for the fast-paced T20 game.

"The camp is one of the several initiatives undertaken by the Mumbai Indians to strengthen the team over the past six months. Mumbai Indians, on previous occasions, have had three such successful camps in Mumbai, Vadodara and Jamnagar, for skill enhancement and team building.

"I am confident that our boys will gain a lot from the camp," he said.

"The boys will undergo rigorous training to achieve physical fitness and mental strength during the camp, besides receiving intensive practice at the nets, fielding drills and a few practice matches," said Robin Singh.
