The first one-day international between South Africa and India in Johannesburg on Sunday was called off due to rain.
Steady rain began falling half-an-hour before the scheduled 2.30 pm local time start and continued until the umpires called off play at 6.45 pm.
The two teams now travel to the coastal city of Durban for the second match in the five-game series on Wednesday.
With their batsmen struggling and bowlers still trying to find their feet, the task is going to be a tough one for India, especially considering their dismal record of having won only three out of the 16 one-dayers they have played in this country.
The loss in the tour-opening warm-up match against a second string South African would have hardly done any good to their sagging morale while a question mark hangs over the availability of key player Virender Sehwag.
