Young Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Sarfaraz Khan on Tuesday revealed he has been advised to play as per the match situation by captain Virat Kohli in the ongoing Indian Premier League.

"I have learned a lot from last year to this year. In between there was the Under 19 (World Cup tournament) and I was able to learn from Rahul Sir (Dravid). I am getting more experience and am able to learn more as Shane Watson too has come into our team," he said on the eve of of RCB's match against Mumbai Indians in the IPL, in Mumbai.

"In the first year I committed some mistakes in IPL. I want to avoid making the same mistakes I made last year. They (seniors) have given confidence. They said this is our first match, you continue to play as you did, but also play as far as possible according to the team situation," he added.

He said he was keen to do well at the Wankhede Stadium where he had played in the past for the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team before moving over to Uttar Pradesh.

"I will be playing for the first time here for RCB. Our top order batsmen are in form. If I get a chance I will try to play well. If I perform well here where I have played before I do feel good."

The right-hander said he had been promoted and done well in the practice matches for RCB ahead of this year's IPL.

"In the selection matches for RCB, I was given chance to bat up the order and did well. The coach and senior players like (Chris) Gayle, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers have given me tips on how to play each ball on merit and how to rotate the strike if a senior player is playing with me at the other end."
