Middle order batsman Mohammed Kaif, ruled out of competitive cricket because of an injury, said a decision on whether he can take part in the forthcoming one-day series against Sri Lanka will be taken only after the team physio makes an assessment of the seriousness of his injury.

Kaif said that he will be consulting with team physio John Gloster on his injury, which will keep him out of action for at least two weeks.

"I have a muscle strain and it takes atleast two weeks to recover from such an injury. I am going to Bangalore tomorrow to meet John to consult on my injury," Kaif said on Monday on the sidelines of a function to felicitate Uttar Pradesh cricketers, who have made it to the national team.

Kaif injured himself during the final of the Challenger series against India 'B' and was therefore not picked in the 15-member team for the first two matches for the home series against Sri Lanka.

He said that the coming series against Sri Lanka will be a tough one but was confident that the team would do well.

"They are a very good side. Last time we played them, the matches were very close but I am hopeful that we will perform well in the series," he said.

He however refused to comment on how he felt captaining the India Seniors in the Challenger series.

Suresh Raina and R P Singh were the other players from UP who were felicitated alongwith him by the Minister of State in PMO, Prithvi Raj Chavan. They were given a cash award of Rs 1 lakh each.
