India fast bowler Ishant Sharma claimed five wickets but Delhi failed to make it count as they went down to Vidarbha by 18 runs in a Group C match of the Vijay Hazare One-Day tournament, in Delhi on Friday.

Electing to bat at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium, Vidarbha rode on opener Faiz Fazal's 83 to post 163 all out in 45.2 overs -- a total which proved challenging in the low-scoring encounter.

Delhi pacer Sharma bowled his heart out to return impressive figures of five for 21. His effort was backed up by Navdeep Amardeep Saini and Subodh Bhati, who bagged two wickets each.

Chasing what seemed an easy target for the star-studded line-up, Delhi faltered against a disciplined bowling attack, led by pace spearhead Umesh Yadav.

Opener Unmukt Chand top-scored with 57, as skipper Gautam Gambhir (6) again failed to lead by example.

Umesh, Ravi Jangid, Akshay Karnewar and Akshay Wakhare claimed two wickets each to help Vidarbha register their first victory after the loss to Odisha on Thursday.

Brief Scores:

Vidarbha 163 all out in 45.2 overs (Faiz Fazal 83, S Badrinath 20; Ishant Sharma 5-21) vs Delhi 145 all out in 45.1 overs (Unmukt Chand 57, Milind 25; Akshay Karnewar 2-17).

Tamil Nadu outclass Mumbai despite Herwadkar's ton

Tamil Nadu produced an all-round display to beat Mumbai by 26 runs and register their second consecutive victory in Hyderabad.

The Ravichandran Ashwin-led side, which earlier defeated Assam in their opening match on Thursday, have eight points in their kitty.

Sent in to bat, Tamil Nadu piled up a huge 312 for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs and then bowled out Mumbai for 286 in 44.2 overs.

Tamil Nadu struggled at the start, losing two quick wickets as they were reduced to 28 for two in the eighth over before Baba Aparajith (77) and Murali Vijay (55) hit half-centuries, putting on 128 runs for the third wicket.

Baba Indrajith slammed 60 not out from 52 balls, while R Sathish blasted 52 from 30 ball to take the attack to the Mumbai bowlers in the final few overs.

Chasing the mammoth score, opener Akhil Herwadkar's (107) century went in vain after the opener smashed 16 fours and a six in his 86-ball knock.

The in-form Shreyas Iyer slammed a quickfire 44 from 32 balls, while Siddhesh Lad stroked a 40-ball 47, but the former's dismissal in the 33rd over saw Mumbai lose their way before they were bowled out in the 45th over, their last six wickets falling for 69 runs.

Brief Scores:

Tamil Nadu 312 for seven in 50 overs (Baba Aparajith 77, Baba Indrajith 60 not out, Murali Vijay 55, R Sathish 52; Dhawal Kulkarni 3/47) vs Mumbai 286 all out in 45.2 overs (Akhil Herwadkar 107; Murugan Ashwin 3/38).

Electing to bat at the KSCA Cricket (3) Ground, Jharkhand scored 177 for four in 47 overs but could not stop Gujarat from running away with an easy victory.

Gujarat rode on opener Priyank Kirit Panchal's 62 to achieve their target in 40.5 overs.

If the second-wicket 111-run partnership between Panchal and skipper Parthiv Patel (44) laid the base for their comfortable victory then Rujul Bhatt (24 not out and Axar Patel made sure (32 not out) that they only lost four wickets in the process.

Dhoni, who failed to impress in his first domestic match for his state – managing just 9 runs -- after a gap of eight years, scored 44 runs off 64 balls, which was studded with four boundaries.

Opening batsman Sheldon Jackson and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja hit scintillating centuries as Saurashtra defeated Madhya Pradesh by seven runs in a high-scoring match in Rajkot.

Put in to bat, the home side, despite losing three quick wickets, amassed 340 for 5, thanks to the efforts of Jackson (111), Jadeja (134) and Chirag Jani (77 not out), who made merry against MP bowlers in the Group D match at SCA Stadium in Khandheri.

Surashtra then bowled Madhya Pradesh out for 333 in 49.1 overs.

However, it was Jani who hogged the limelight with an aggressive batting display. He hammered six sixes and three fours in his 43-ball unbeaten 77. Jadeja and Jani also added 152 runs for the fifth wicket.

Madhya Pradesh openers R M Patidar (53) and Jalaj Saxena (133) gave a perfect start to their team's run chase, adding 109 runs for the first wicket. Naman Ojha chipped in with 58, but lower order batsmen failed to keep up the momentum and Madhya Pradesh lost by a small margin.

Captain R Vinay Kumar's all-round show helped Karnataka bounce back and outclass Haryana by 38 runs in the Group B encounter in Bangalore.

Put in to bat, Karnataka lost an early wicket when Mayank Agarwal was dismissed for a duck by Harshal Patel in the second over of the match but K L Rahul rallied them with a good innings of 40.

Former India wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani's son Sadiq had a forgettable debut for Karnataka as he was dismissed for 19, while Manish Pandey (36) and Stuart Binny (30) also fell after getting off to good starts.

Once again, the lower order came to Karnataka's rescue, with Vinay Kumar slamming 41 from 30 balls and Jagadeesha Suchith 46, the duo putting on 54 runs for the eighth wicket to steer the total to a competitive 242 for nine in 50 overs.

Left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt bagged six wickets after a solid performance by the batsmen as Baroda outplayed Andhra Pradesh by 89 runs in Delhi.

Put in to bat at the Palam ground, Baroda rode on a 159-run opening stand between Kedar Devdhar (81) and Aditya Waghmode (76) to post 291 for six in 50 overs.

Even though skipper Ambati Rayudu was out for 1, Deepak Hooda (53) and Yusuf Pathan (46 not out) made it count for the side, which had lost their first game against Delhi.

Yusuf's 36-ball knock provided the much-needed entertainment in the slog overs as the hard-hitter smashed two fours and as many sixes.

Chasing a stiff target, the Prasanth Kumar-led side faltered from the start and was bundled out for 202 in 43.1 overs.
