Mumbai Police will not extend the deadline for Chennai Super Kings CEO Gurunath Meiyappan to appear before it for questioning in the Indian Premier League betting scandal.

Gurunath MeiyappanThe police said on Friday, "He has been asked to present himself by 5 pm today".

"Meiyappan was served summons yesterday which asked him to present himself before the crime branch here between 10am and 5pm today. So, he has to present himself by 5pm today," a high positioned officer involved in the probe said.

He, however, parried questions about whether Meiyappan, son-in-law of BCCI president and CSK owner N Srinivasan, would be arrested if he fails to make an appearance on Friday.

Meiyappan had, on Thursday, sought time till Monday to appear before the Mumbai crime branch, hours after he was summoned by the police.

Though the exact contents of the faxed letter to crime branch is not known, the CSK principal wanted time till Monday since he wanted to attend the Indian Premier League final in Kolkata on Sunday.

CSK are scheduled to play the final on Sunday against the winner of Friday’s play-off tie between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals.

Meiyappan is under the scanner for his proximity to Bollywood actor Vindoo Dara Singh, who was arrested for his alleged association with bookmakers.
