After two miserable seasons in charge as Delhi Daredevils' chief coach, Gary Kirsten was relieved from his duties on Monday.

Delhi Daredevils announced the South African's termination from the job for the upcoming ninth season of the Indian Premier League.

"Gary, with his rich coaching experience made significant contribution towards our team culture and his work ethics were immaculate. We appreciate his contribution towards our team rebuilding process and would like to wish him the very best in all his future endeavors," Delhi Daredevils CEO Hemant Dua said.

Kirsten, who guided India to their 2011 World Cup triumph, was unable to inspire the IPL team enough and the GMR group-owned franchise finished among the bottom two in IPL 8.

He failed to provide the desired results and appeared out of sync with the demands of T20 coaching.

That the Daredevils never had any quality top-of-the-line Indian players in their line-up also added to their woes.

Yuvraj Singh, who was brought for Rs 16 crore in the player auction preceding IPL 8, proved a costly buy. The India discard hardly contributed to the team's cause.
