'#ThankYouSanga' tributes pour in for Sri Lankan great Sangakkara

Kumar Sangakkara, the fifth highest Test run-scorer in history, was given a guard of honour by India's fielders in the second Test in Colombo.

#ThankYouSanga has been trending on Twitter from Sunday morning.

Sangakkara had announced his retirement before the series and had said that the second Test would be his last in international cricket. Sangakkara made 32 in the first innings and 18 in the second.

As the stylish left-hander draws curtains to his illustrious career, here are tributes pouring from him from across the world.

The 37-year-old’s former teammate, Mahela Jayawardena led the tributes on Twitter, “It wasn't to be in this match but what he was for SL cricket is some thing that you can't take away. Very proud of you mate.”

The iconic Sachin Tendulkar welcomed the Sri Lankan legend and wrote on his Twitter handle, “Well played @KumarSanga2. You have been a terrific ambassador for the game & a thorough gentleman. Warm welcome to the club of the retired!”

Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle tweeted, “Guess the time comes for everyone but #Sangakkara can be proud because he enriched our game.”

Take the look at what one legend said to another, “Congrats @KumarSanga2 on an outstanding career. It was a pleasure playing against & with you mate. Have a fulfilling retired life:)” tweeted India’s VVS Laxman.

Suresh Raina wrote, “A gentleman beyond the game well played @KumarSanga2 you are legend thank u for memories.”

India’s Aakash Chopra said, “Fortunate to see a few Signature Sangakarra shots in his brief stay...and see him one last time in white flannels.”
