A selection of musings from around the cricket World Cup
Somewhere in our midst, distantly catching our eye every now and then, a cricket World Cup is taking place.
We know Australia is in it because they're on television whenever they play. Afghanistan is one of the other teams. We know that because there they were the other night on television, appearing with Australia. Before that, there was, ahem, New Zealand, and before that there was ... was it England? It seemed important at the time. But that was almost three weeks ago and there has been a bit of football on the TV since, and almost no cricket.
Eyewitnesses and other reliable sources indicate that there are other teams in this World Cup, and some are very good, and have played memorable matches. The trouble is that they have been on pay television.
