Former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott has slammed skipper Eoin Morgan, terming him a player who lacks cleverness while facing top-class bowlers of the World.

In the light of Morgan's recent performance, Boycott said that he didn't think the skipper was as good as he thinks he was, adding that he also didn't think Morgan was as good as some people say he was, the BBC reported.

Despite hitting a ton against Australia in the tri-series, Morgan struggled to carry forward the form in his last four innings as he could only score two runs.

Boycott added that Morgan had not been clever enough while facing top-class bowlers.

England will open their World Cup opener against Australia on Saturday in Melbourne.

England will also play Afghanistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Scotland and Sri Lanka in Group A.
