India cricket fans dressed the WACA in colours of every hue on Holi as India staggered to a 4-wicket victory over the West Indies in their World Cup Pool B match on Friday.
Donning traditional Jaipuri costumes and turbans, the Indian fans made the WACA look like a home ground.
With the decibel level at its highest and the Indian flag flying in every corner of the stadium, it was obvious which team had the most support.
The female fans present also could not contain their excitement as India had the Windies bowled out for 182 in 44.5 overs.
India had a few hiccups en route the win. However, it was the fans who egged on the team as every run stolen and the odd boundary hit.
Even India’s premier batsman Virat Kohli had acknowledged after the World Cup opening victory against Pakistan, that it’s the support of the crowds that brings out the best in him.
“Also the fans. Even before we came here (to the ground), there were a lot of fans in our lobby and the Australians were asking what has happened. That helped."
Some fans also brought in the Indian Premier League angle into the match.
India’s Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle play for Royal Challengers Bangalore and supporters made a collage highlighting the same.
Though Kohli made a brisk 33 (36), in the end it was captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni who took India to safe shores.
