Indian opener Murali Vijay was unable to bat on Day 1 of the only tour game due to a hamstring strain but is expected to get fit for the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle starting August 12, the team management said.

Vijay was unable to take field as skipper Virat sent Lokesh Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan to open the innings after being put into bat in the three-day game in Colombo on Thursday.

Indians ended the day on 314 for six in 79 overs with Ajinkya Rahane unbeaten on 109, but Vijay never came out to bat.
