The upcoming limited-overs' series in Sri Lanka will be a big test of Duncan Fletcher's credentials as coach of the Indian team which seems to have hit a roadblock ever since he took over.

- How Gary Kirsten inspired Team India

India won the World Cup last year and was also No. 1 in the Test rankings, but since the departure of Gary Kirsten the team's fortunes have sunk.

Duncan Fletcher The former Zimbabwe captain who came with a big reputation after enjoying success with England hasn't had good a start to his tenure with the Indian team. In fact, his record looks even worse when compared to that of his predecessor, Kirsten.

- 'Fletcher coaches very much like Kirsten'

In his first year with the Indian team, Fletcher won just three out of 14 Tests, and also had the ignominy of successive whitewashes in England and Australia.

His record in ODIs is also not up to the mark, having won just 17 out of 31 matches, for a success percentage of 54.

On the other hand, Kirsten, who arrived with very little reputation, got off to a smashing start.

He won five of the first 12 Test matches in his first year, while his record in ODIs was top-notch, a success percentage of 78, having guided the team to 20 wins in 26 outings.

He signed off on a high after winning the 50-overs World Cup last year and Fletcher is struggling to carry his legacy forward at the moment.

Sure, Fletcher know that only results count when it comes to Indian cricket. If he has to stay in the good books of the BCCI and get accepted by fans, it is important that the team gets back to winning ways after the disappointments of last season.

In short, his honeymoon period is over; he needs to start delivering!
