Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Charitable Foundation received 20,000 pounds out of the 300,000 raised during the inaugural T20 fundraiser, 'Cricket for Heroes', at the KIA Oval last week.
India's limited-overs team captain scored the winning runs as his side, Help for Heroes XI, led by Andrew Strauss, beat the Brendon McCullum-led Rest of the World XI by four wickets.
Dhoni scored 38 off 22 balls and hit a four for the winning runs as his 'Heroes' chased down 158, with three balls to spare.
From the 300,000 pounds raised from the match, the Help for Heroes Foundation contributed 20,000 towards Dhoni's Charitable Foundation, which will be handed over to the Indian army to support the wounded and severely injured soldiers in the line of duty.
Following The Oval match in London, the Dhoni Charitable Foundation has teamed with The Help for Heroes foundation to replicate a series of similar charity matches in India over the coming years to raise more funds for the Indian army.
On his return to India after the match, Dhoni said, "The match was an excellent platform to support such a worthy cause. I feel honoured to have been a part of it and look forward to supporting many more like these in the near future. The match also served as a good practice for the upcoming ODI series with South Africa."
