BCCI plans own telecast of Australia series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India said on Wednesday it is making arrangements on its own to broadcast next month's Test series against Australia, which is under threat because of a raging television rights dispute.

"Arrangements are being done by the Board for covering the India-Australia series and other series," BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya said.

"The interests of the country is involved. We will make our best efforts," he told reporters without giving further details.

The BCCI walked away on Tuesday from a conditional $308 million deal for top domestic media firm Zee Telefilms to broadcast the cricket-crazy nation's home games for four years, in the face of a legal challenge from unsuccessful bidder ESPN Star Sports.

Zee has petitioned the Supreme Court, the country's highest court, against the decision to cancel the deal. The appeal is set for hearing on Thursday.
