Statistical highlights of the second day's play in the fourth and final Test between India and Australia, in Adelaide, on Wednesday.

# Ricky Ponting's magnificent 221 is his sixth double hundred in Tests. Only Don Bradman (12) has more double hundreds to his credit than Ponting for Australia.

# Ponting is the only batsman to register three double hundreds against India. He scored two double hundreds against Pakistan and one against the West Indies.

# Ponting's double hundred is the 19th at Adelaide – the most at one venue, eclipsing the 18 at The Oval.

# Ponting's three double centuries against India are: 257 at Melbourne and 242 at Adelaide -- both in 2003-04, and 221 at Adelaide in January 2012.

# Zaheer Abbas was the first batsman to post two double hundreds against India -- both at Lahore -- 235 not out in October 1978 and 215 in December 1982. Mahela Jayawardene scored 242 at Colombo, SSC in February 1999 and 275 at Ahmedabad in November 2009 and Michael Clarke -- 329 not out at SCG and 210 in the present series.

# Two batsmen have scored double centuries in the same Test innings against India four times: Mudassar Nazar (231) and Javed Miandad (280*)for Pakistan at Hyderabad (Sind) in 1982-83;  Graeme Fowler (201) and Mike Gatting (207) for England at Chennai in 1984-85 and  Sanath Jayasuriya (340) and Roshan Mahanama (225) for Sri Lanka at Colombo, RPS in 1997-98.

# Michael Clarke became the first Australian captain to hit two innings of 200 or more against India. Greg Chappell had scored 204 at Sydney in 1980-81 and Don Bradman 201 at Adelaide in 1947-48.

# Clarke has become the first skipper to post two innings of 200-plus against India in Tests. Don Bradman, Graham Dowling, Graham Gooch, Greg Chappell, Carl Hooper, Clive Lloyd and Kumar Sangakkara registered one innings of 200 or more each as captain against India.

# Clarke's run-aggregate in the series -- 589 at an average of 147.25 -- is the third best by an Australian captain in a Test series against India, next only to Don Bradman – 715 at an average of 178.75 in five Tests in 1947-48 and Kim Hughes -- 594 at an average of 59.40 in six Tests in 1979-80.

# Rahul Dravid is without a fifty in six Test innings, his sequence of scores being 10, 5, 29, 9, 47 and 1.

# Dravid is averaging 24.14 in the current series -- 169 at a strike rate of 35.20. His average against Australia is now 38.92 -- 2141 in 33 Tests, including two hundreds and 13 fifties.

# Dravid has been bowled in four consecutive innings for the first time -- Sydney Test (second innings), twice at Perth and the Adelaide Test (first innings).

# Dravid has been clean bowled nine times in his last 11 innings, including six times in the present series. He now shares an Indian record for being bowled six times in a Test series with Chandu Sarwate, Anshuman Gaekwad and Bhagwat Chandrasekhar.

# Dravid took his tally of 'bowled' dismissals to 55, extending his record in Tests.

# Zaheer Khan has taken 14 wickets at 31.35 runs apiece in the current rubber -- the most by an Indian bowler. Umesh Yadav (13 wickets at 40.61 runs apiece) has the next best wicket-aggregate for India.

# For the second time in a Test innings, Ishant Sharma (30-6-100-0) has conceded 100 runs or more without taking a wicket. He had figures of 32-5-128-0 against England at Lord's last year.

# Ishant's average (106.00) and strike rate (176.2) are his worst in a Test series while claiming four wickets in four Tests at an average of 106.00.

# In seven Tests in Australia, Ishant has captured just ten wickets at an average of 78.20 -- the strike rate being 131.1.

# Australia posted their third total of 600 or more against India in Tests -- the highest is 674 in 1947-48.

# Virender Sehwag has averaged below 20 (19.42) in the series -- 36 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 66.66.

# Harris (35 not out) has posted his career-best innings in Tests, eclipsing the 23 against Sri Lanka at Galle last year.

# Clarke and Ponting were involved in a stand of 386 -- the highest fourth-wicket partnership by any pair against India in Tests, surpassing the 288 by the same pair at Sydney in the second Test of the series, now-in-progress.

# The above stand is Australia's second highest for the fourth wicket in Tests, next only to the 388 between Bill Ponsford and Don Bradman against England at Leeds in 1934.

The said partnership (386) is the highest for any wicket at Adelaide, eclipsing the 341 for the third wicket between Graeme Pollock and Eddie Barlow for South Africa against Australia in January 1964.

# The above stand is the highest for any wicket in Australia-India Tests, bettering the 376 for the fifth wicket between VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid at Eden Gardens, Kolkata in 2000-01.

# The said partnership is the third highest for any wicket against India in Tests, next only to the 576 for the second wicket between Sanath Jayasuriya and Roshan Mahanama for Sri Lanka at Colombo (RPS) in 1997 and 451 for the third wicket between Javed Miandad and Mudassar Nazar for Pakistan at Hyderabad (Sind) in 1982-83.

# Clarke (210 off 275 balls) has posted his second double hundred in Tests - the highest is an unbeaten 329 off 468 balls at Sydney in the second Test of the present series.

# Clarke's double hundred is the 20th by an Australian captain in Tests. Bradman had posted four, followed by three each by Bobby Simpson and Greg Chappell and two each by Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Allan Border.

# Clarke and Bradman are the two skippers to post two innings of 200-plus for Australia in a Test series. Bradman had recorded two double hundreds against England in 1936-37 -- 270 at Melbourne and 212 at Adelaide.

# Clarke became the second batsman to post two innings of 200 or more in a Test series against India. Ricky Ponting was the first to do so in the 2003-04 Test series in Australia -- 257 at Melbourne and 242 at Adelaide.

# Ricky Ponting (221) became the first Australian player to post two double hundreds against India at Adelaide -- 242 in December 2003 and 221 in January 2012.

# Ravichandran Ashwin (53-6-194-3) set an unwanted record of conceding most runs in an innings in India-Australia Tests, beating Anil Kumble's figures -- 51-8-176-6 at the MCG in 2003-04.

# Ashwin conceded most runs in an innings at Adelaide Oval, surpassing John Gleeson's tally of conceding 176 runs (35-2-176-1) for Australia against the West Indies in 1968-69.
