It was a perfect homecoming for Stuart Broad.
Asked to lead the England attack in the fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge, in the absence of spearhead James Anderson, the Nottinghamshire bowler became only the fifth Englishman to reach the 300 Test wickets milestone.
It is imperative here to mention that Broad played a key role in the third Test at Edgbaston, which England won by eight wickets, and got to 299 wickets, but ended up playing second fiddle in either innings, to Anderson in the first and Steven Finn in the second.
Australia's Mitchell Johnson also entered the 300 wickets club in the third Test.
He became the fifth Australian bowler to take 300 Test wickets and now Broad too attained the feat.
While it took Johnson 69 Tests to reach the landmark, Broad achieved it in his 83rd Test.
Among the English bowlers only Anderson (412) - Broad's new ball partner, Ian Botham (383), Bob Willis (325) and Fred Trueman (307) have taken more wickets.
Broad is the 29th bowler overall to reach the '300 wickets' club. Among his wickets, 77 have come against Australia, his most against any nation.
The 29-year-old went on to take seven more wickets and finish with career-best figures of eight for 15 (9.3 overs) as Australia crashed to 60 all out.
England lead the five-match series 2-1, having won the opening Test in Cardiff and the third match at Edgbaston.
