India will stay fifthM J Manohar Rao and Srinivas Bhogle
Unless India (45.59) lose all five matches to South Africa (59.68) in the ongoing one-day international series, they will stay fifth in the Rediff ODI rankings. South Africa will be second even if they lose all the four remaining matches.
After their convincing home win against Sri Lanka, India jumped from the eighth to the fifth position. South Africa too climbed from the fourth to the second place after swamping New Zealand at home.
Table A shows the current Rediff ODI rankings.

There have been some big changes in positions chiefly because the ICC Champions Trophy held in September 2004 goes out of the 12-month 'window' of reckoning while calculating the tournament index. That's why West Indies, who won the tournament but won nothing there after, drop to eighth place. England, the finalist in the ICC Champions Trophy, too have dropped two places.
The corresponding ICC ODI ratings (as on Nov 17, 2005) are Australia (136), South Africa (122), Pakistan (116), Sri Lanka (109), England (109), New Zealand (108), India (106), West Indies (90) and Zimbabwe (44).
India can climb to the fourth place in the LG ICC ODI ratings if they beat South Africa 3-2 or better. If India lose the series, then they'll still be seventh, or at best sixth. As always, the 'middle' is terribly crowded in the LG ICC ODI ratings.
Details
The weighted index (WI) is calculated based on the ODI scorecard
that appears below as Table B. We essentially compute a weighted average taking into account the 'opposition strength' factor and the 'home-away-neutral' results of the most recent encounters between every pair of teams.

We next calculate the tournament index (TI) which factors in a team's performance in tournaments and series (and thereby seeks to better reward wins in 'big' matches). The TI is currently based on a
time 'window' spanning the period Nov 2004 to Nov 2005.
