4th T20I Updates: India opt to bowl, bring in Ishan and Mayank

Shreyas Iyer has opted to bowl after winning the toss.

India have made two changes, bringing in Ishan Kishan for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Mayank Yadav in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Shreyas Iyer: We're going to bowl first and stick to the same approach. It's important to be ruthless, and that's the message we've given the boys. Everyone is in good spirits. We expect some bounce and seam movement. We have made two changes, with Ishan Kishan coming in for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Mayank Yadav replacing Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Mitchell Santner: It's a fresh start for us. The pitch tends to offer a little more bounce here, but it looks like a good batting surface.

India set to experiment after sealing NZ series

image

With the series already in the bag, India have the luxury of experimenting when they take on New Zealand in the fourth T20I in Auckland on Friday.

The focus could shift from winning to giving some of the players on the sidelines a chance to prove themselves, with wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy among those waiting for an opportunity.

India's 3-0 lead gives the team management room to tinker with the winning combination, especially after three high-scoring games in which the visitors have backed a deep batting line-up. But with only two matches left, the likes of Kuldeep and Varun will be keen to get some valuable game time before the team moves on.

Kuldeep, in particular, will be eager to get back into the playing XI. The left-arm wrist spinner has repeatedly shown his ability to break partnerships and pick up wickets in the middle overs, but has been overlooked for the first three matches.

Varun, meanwhile, has had an inconsistent run over the past six months and will also be looking to make the most of any opportunity that comes his way.

There could be changes in the pace attack too, with Mayank Yadav potentially getting another look-in after Prince Yadav impressed in the last two games. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, meanwhile, will be keen to build on his improved showing at the death in Wellington.

Ishan Kishan's availability remains uncertain after he missed the last two games with a groin injury. If he is still unavailable, young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could get another chance to showcase his explosive hitting.

With the series decided, India could also consider resting Nitish Reddy, opening the door for Shivam Dube. The fourth T20I offers an ideal opportunity to test the bench strength without losing sight of preparations for the bigger challenges ahead.
