Allah Ghazanfar was brought into the attack as Royal Challengers Bengaluru looked to rebuild steadily. Jacob Bethell started the over with a flick to deep backward square leg for a single, while Krunal Pandya comfortably pushed one down to long-on.
A thick inside edge onto the pad brought a leg bye before Krunal eased some pressure with a classy boundary. Then came the drama -- a huge LBW appeal from MI. Ryan Rickelton was convinced it had hit pad first, and MI immediately went upstairs for a review.
The replay, however, showed the impact was outside off stump. To make matters worse for MI, RCB even sneaked in an overthrow during the play. An eventful over ended with a single as RCB moved to 74/3 after 10 overs.
Raj Bawa then came into the attack, but Krunal continued to look in control. Bethell worked a single to long leg before Krunal produced another confident boundary and followed it up with smart strike rotation. The pair kept the scoreboard ticking with singles through the rest of the over.
After 11 overs, RCB were 82/3, needing 85 runs from 54 balls, with the chase nicely poised.
