Ireland smash 22 off Suryansh over

Ireland 80-3 (11 Ovs) vs India | SCORECARD

Suryansh Shedge continues. Tector works it into the vacant mid-wicket pocket for a couple of runs. He then meets the next one nicely on the bounce, nudging it to mid-off for a single.

Ireland finally find some momentum as Calitz breaks free with a much-needed boundary. And it gets even better--he launches the next delivery for six, clearing the field (and just about Samson).

But there's more drama--Shedge appears to have overstepped, so Ireland will get a free hit as well.

On the free hit, Tector goes big again--SIX! It's dropped and then parried over the rope. The catch wouldn't have counted, but Arshdeep will feel he should have done better trying to save the boundary.

A full toss outside off follows, with a single to finish the over.

A huge one for Ireland--22 runs from it. After 11 overs, they are 80 for 3.

Another debutant, Suryansh Shedge, is brought into the attack. Harry Tector starts cautiously, flicking one towards backward point for no run. Calitz then calls him through for a quick single. He keeps things tight with a solid defensive shot, before Calitz adds another run by guiding one towards deep point.

Tector tries to pierce the field but finds backward point again for no run. Just a single to finish the over--3 runs from it. After 9 overs, Ireland are 53 for 3.

India then turn to spin for the first time, with Axar coming into the attack from around the wicket.

Tector works him into the deep midwicket region for a single. Calitz defends the next delivery before picking up another run. Tector again clips one into deep midwicket for a single, showing good control against the spin. Calitz finishes the over with a couple of runs.

A steady over--5 runs from it. After 10 overs, Ireland are 58 for 3.

Shivam Dube comes into the attack now. Tector rotates strike with a single, while Tucker is beaten on a delivery that shapes nicely past the bat. A couple of runs follow as Ireland keep things ticking, with just 4 coming off the over. After 7 overs, Ireland are 48 for 2.

Prince Yadav continues--and he strikes immediately.

Tucker swings and misses before trying to line up a pull shot but is a touch late on it. The pressure pays off as the Ireland captain edges it, and Ishan Kishan takes a sharp catch behind the stumps. A maiden T20I wicket for Prince Yadav. Tucker departs for 15 off 18 balls.

Benjamin Calitz walks in and gets off the mark with a single, although a direct hit might have made things interesting. Tector survives a close moment too, with Prince Yadav putting down a return chance.

Calitz adds another single to end the over. Just 2 runs and a wicket from it--an excellent over from Prince Yadav. After 8 overs, Ireland are 50 for 3.

Harshit Rana continues. Tucker initially shoulders arms before jabbing the next delivery towards cover for no run. He then finds the boundary with a crisp shot, before rotating strike with a single. Tector plays it safe with a defensive stroke, and a leg bye is added to the total. A steady over--6 runs from it, and after 4 overs Ireland are 32 for 2.

Arshdeep Singh follows up. Tector is solid in defence to start, keeping things tight with another dot ball. Tucker then responds with a well-timed boundary before easing a single into the gap. Tector sees out the over with a calm push towards third man, and Arshdeep finishes with a dot. Another 6-run over, and Ireland move to 38 for 2 after 5 overs.

Light rain is beginning to fall, as noted by the commentators, but play continues for now without interruption.

Debutant Prince Yadav comes into the attack, right-arm pace. Tucker works the first ball towards square leg for no run before cracking a boundary off the next delivery. Prince then beats him with a sharp delivery--almost a breakthrough there, as Tucker would have been gone had it connected. Tucker responds with a flick to square leg for a single, and Tector also rotates strike.

Another steady over--6 runs from it. After 6 overs, Ireland are 44 for 2.

Ireland 26-2 (3 Ovs) vs India | SCORECARD

Ross Adair gets another chance against Arshdeep Singh. Harshit Rana and Ishan Kishan both chase it back from short third, converging as they look to complete the catch. In a moment of hesitation, Harshit goes for it but spills it--popping the ball out of his hand as he falls backwards, and it trickles away to the fence for four.

But the drop doesn't prove costly.

Next ball, Arshdeep strikes as Adair departs, caught by Tilak Varma after mistiming the shot. He goes for 16 off just 7 balls.

Lorcan Tucker comes in and gets off the mark immediately with a single. Harry Tector then finds the boundary with a well-timed stroke, before being beaten on the next delivery.

A mixed over for India--9 runs and a wicket from the third--leaving Ireland at 26 for 2 after 3 overs.

Harshit Rana takes the new ball from over the wicket. Tector starts solidly, defending one straight back to the bowler for a dot ball.

But he's quickly under pressure on the next delivery--Rana offers width and Tector cashes in, timing it beautifully through the gap for four. However, Rana hits back immediately.

The next ball has extra bounce outside off. Tector goes for the pull but gets a thick inside edge, and it flies straight into the safe hands of Abhishek Sharma at mid-wicket. He departs for 5 off 6 balls.

Harry Tector walks in as the new batter and sees out the final delivery of the over with a solid defence.

A brilliant over from Harshit Rana--just 4 runs and a wicket, leaving Ireland at 22 for 1 after 2 overs.

Ireland off to flying start vs India in Belfast

Ireland 13-0 (1 Ovs) vs India | SCORECARD

Tim Tector and Ross Adair are out in the middle for Ireland, with Tector on strike. Arshdeep Singh has the new ball and will open the bowling.

The Irish openers walk out as conditions brighten in Belfast, with a slip in place as Arshdeep begins the attack. And we’re underway.

Tector gets off the mark straightaway, guiding one off the inside half of the bat to the right of the bowler for a single. Adair then takes strike and goes for a big swing, but misses it completely. India to bowl vs Ireland, Sooryavanshi misses out

Ireland captain Lorcan Tucker flipped the coin, and Shreyas Iyer called it correctly to give India the toss. India have decided to bowl first.

Shreyas Iyer said India want to adapt quickly to the conditions and play smart cricket, backed by a group of experienced players. He added that the team used their day off well and are ready to go. Iyer confirmed two debutants in the XI -- Suryansh Shedge and Prince Yadav -- praising Shedge's performances in domestic cricket and the IPL, while saying Prince should not be burdened with too much pressure.

Lorcan Tucker said Ireland would have been happy to bat first, aiming to get an early read on the pitch. He pointed to their disciplined performance in the previous match as a positive. Tucker confirmed an unchanged XI, with Humphreys fit, and paid tribute to Harry Tector for reaching 100 caps, calling it a reflection of his consistency and hard work.

India have handed debuts to two players, but the big talking point is who isn't there. Suryansh Shedge and Prince Yadav are set to make their first appearances for India, marking a proud moment for both.

However, there's disappointment for fans eager to see young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who is not in the XI and will have to wait for his international debut.

Can India bounce back vs Ireland in 2nd T20I?

image

India will look to bounce back from a stunning defeat and level the two-match T20I series 1-1 when they take on Ireland in the second game in Belfast on Sunday.

Shreyas Iyer's return to T20Is after 963 days, and his first outing as India's T20 captain, ended on a disappointing note as Ireland pulled off a memorable 34-run win. Chasing 186, India suffered a dramatic batting collapse and were bowled out for just 148.

With the series on the line, all eyes will be on how India respond after the disappointing performance. Fans will also be hoping to see 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi make his much-anticipated debut in Indian colours.
