England vs India 1st T20 called off due to rain

The rain showed no signs of relenting forcing the umpires to call of the match after India's innings.

Electing to bat, India posted 189/7 in their 20 overs courtesy of half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer and Abhishek Sharma.

It still continues to rain at Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. We have started to lose overs now. 

Importantly, the cut-off time for a five-overs match is 9pm local time which is 1.30am IST. For the match to resume, it needs to stop raining within the next 20-25 minutes as the groundstaff will also need time to get the ground ready.

The Duckworth-Lewis revised targets for England in a shortened match will be 64 runs in five overs.

Rain has delayed the start of England's run chase in Chester-le-Street. The ground is under covers as the players are yet to take the field.

Earlier, electing to bat, India recovered from a horror start to post a healthy 189/7 in their 20 overs.

Abhishek Sharma smashed an entertaining 59, with four sixes and six fours, while skipper Shreyas Iyer made a composed 68. The duo put on 82 from 38 balls for the third wicket to rally India after Sanju Samson (1) and Ishan Kishan (0) perished in the second over.

Shivam Dube provided the fireworks at the end, smashing 42 from 21 balls with three sixes and two fours.
