Punjab Kings down SRH; DC opt to bowl vs CSK

image
Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has won the toss and elected to bowl against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai.

CSK, looking for their first win, have made a change as fast bowler Gurjapneet Singh is brought into the Playing XI.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad says the great M S Dhoni is at the team hotel cheering for the team.

Delhi Capitals made a couple of changes bringing in J&K pacer Auqib Nabi for his IPL debut, while Ashutosh Rana is set to play as the Impact Player.

Let's have a look at the Playing XIs:

Chennai Super Kings: Sanju Samson (Wicketkeeper), Ruturaj Gaikwad (Captain), Ayush Mhatre, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis, Jamie Overton, Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh, Khaleel Ahmed.

Impact Subs: Matthew Short, Akeal Hosein, Kartik Sharma, Prashant Veer, Matt Henry.

Delhi Capitals: Pathum Nissanka, KL Rahul (Wicketkeeper), Sameer Rizvi, Axar Patel (Captain), David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Auqib Nabi Dar, Lungi Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav, T Natarajan, Mukesh Kumar.

Impact Subs: Vipraj Nigam, Ashutosh Sharma, Karun Nair, Dushmantha Chameera, Nitish Rana.

Axar said after winning the toss: "We would like to bowl first because the pitch looks good, and whatever score is set, we would prefer to chase it. The IPL is a long tournament and the dressing room atmosphere is very relaxed. The discussion has been around focusing on what we can control, once we reach a certain point, there’s no need to overthink things. So that’s been the mindset, control what’s in our hands. The mood is good. If you look at the balance of our side, we have almost all bases covered. Our aim will be to restrict them to as low a total as possible and then chase it down. There are two changes. Nabi comes in for Vipraj, and Ashutosh Sharma replaces Nitish Rana."

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said: "The pitch does look a bit on the drier side. We were actually 50-50 about the toss, but it’s good to back ourselves. The aim is to put our best foot forward today, get that first win and get on the points table. That’s what we’ve been trying over the last couple of games as well. Like I mentioned in the press conference, we’ve been improving in all departments. The batting has been doing really well, it’s just a few key moments where we’ve missed out, and those are the areas we need to capitalise on. But overall, everyone is in a good space and really eager to go. We’ve brought in Gurjapneet Singh, who has been bowling well recently, in place of Matt Edwards. For those asking about MS Dhoni, he’s at the hotel watching and supporting us. But yes, very soon, you’ll see him out on the ground."

Abhishek has been quite destructive in the Powerplay on a flat pitch in New Chandigarh. 62 of his 66 runs have come in boundaries including seven sixes and five fours, while Punjab's bowlers have managed just 10 dots in the Powerplay.

Interesting move from Punjab Kings to bring in part-time medium pacer Shashank Singh.

He does well to beat Abhishek first ball on the outside edge with a full delivery that jags away before he takes one.

Head guides the full wide delivery fine on the off-side for a couple of runs and crashes the fourth ball through the covers for two more.

Head walks across but fails to connect with the scoop and mistimes the big swing for just a single, to get six runs from the over.

A good over under the circumstances as Shashank concedes just six runs in his first over.

The experienced Yuzvendra Chahal comes into the attack with Punjab desperate for a wicket.

Head drives a full delivery down to long-on for one before Abhishek looks to swing the spinner over midwicket but fails to connect and is struck on the pads.

The left-hander clips the fourth ball off his pads for one and Head takes a single through the covers.

Abhishek gets things back on track after the previous over went without a boundary. He comes down the track to launch Chahal for a six straight down the ground.

Bartlett looking to bowl full and wide but Head is able to guide the full delivery past point for the third four in a row.

Head then misses a high full toss before he takes the review for a possible no ball.

The ball is clearly above the waist level as the decision is overturned and it is ruled a no-ball.

Punjab's woes worsen as SRH are gifted a free hit delivery. Bartlett bowls to his field as Head hits the wide yorker to deep point for a single.

Abhishek walks across his stumps to swing Bartlett over midwicket for a six as SRH race past 100 in 5.5 overs before he gets a single off the last ball.

Head backs away to loft the full delivery powerfully over long-on for a six and then opens the face of the bat last second to guide the full delivery past the wicketkeeper for a four to make it 16 from the over.

Pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak comes into the attack. Abhishek comes down the track and makes room to launch the first ball over the off-side for a six.

He hits the next ball straight which is stopped by the bowler on his follow through.

Vyshak goes full and Abhishek continues his assault by launching it over long-off for another six.

Vyshak attempts the slower ball but no stopping Abhishek who despatches it high over long-on for the third six of the over, to race to his fifty from just 18 balls, having hit five sixes and five fours.

Vyshak doesn't help his cause by bowling a full toss which Abhishek sends flying over long-on for the fourth six of the over.

Abhishek has destroyed the Punjab bowlers, smashing his way to a blistering 59 from 20 balls.

Arshdeep comes under attack at the hands of Abhishek in his second over. He starts with a short ball which Abhishek pulls over midwicket for a four.

Arshdeep tries the full slower delivery which Abhishek lofts straight down the ground for another four to race to 22 from nine balls with five fours.

Arshdeep feeling the pressure as he bowls a big wide outside the off-stump.

He offers no shot to the next ball pitched away from the stumps but since he moved across the umpire doesn't rule it a wide.

Arshdeep in a total mess. He bowls three wides in a row before Arshdeep clobbers him for back to back sixes.

Punjab elect to bowl vs SRH

SRH 9-0 (1 ov) vs Punjab | SCORECARD

Abhishek Sharma up against his Punjab and India team-mate Arshdeep Singh with Travis Head at the other end.

Certainly, Arshdeep will know a trick or two on how to keep Abhishek quiet.

Arshdeep hasn't picked up a wicket in the Powerplay in the last nine matches in the IPL. He starts with a wide down the leg side to Abhishek, who then hammers a short wide delivery over the covers for a four to get off the mark.

The left-hander taps the second ball into the covers for a single before Arshdeep bowls another leg side wide to Head.

Head makes room to guide Arshdeep behind point but can't find the gap before the cut shot is stopped by the fielder at point.

He confirms that Punjab Kings have brought in Priyansh Arya in the playing XI in place of Nehal Wadhera.

Meanwhile, SRH have made a couple of changes as they eye an important victory to keep themselves in the top half of the draw. Batter Salil Arora and medium pacer Pravin Hinge come into the team in place of Liam Livingstone and Jaydev Unadkat.

Sunrisers eye comeback vs Punjab

Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad

Welcome to the coverage of the 17th match of IPL 2026 between Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, on Saturday.

A plucky Punjab Kings will back themselves against a star-studded, yet inconsistent, SRH.

Considering how they have started the season, PBKS must be disappointed about sharing a point with KKR in their last game due to rain.

Led by Shreyas Iyer, PBKS have come to symbolise what a winning unit should look like, whether it is chasing down a 200-plus total with ease against Chennai Super Kings in a sea of yellow or overcoming former champions Gujarat Titans on a tricky Mullanpur surface.

They were on course for a third successive win against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, with Australian quick Xavier Bartlett wreaking havoc, before heavy rain and a thunderstorm forced them to share a point with the hosts.

However the same cannot be said about SRH, who despite their reputation for explosive batting and big totals have faltered this season largely due to top-order collapses as seen against RCB and LSG when the dangerous opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma fell cheaply.

They have managed just one win from their first three games.

Adding to their woes, SRH have seen little impact from the likes of Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat.

The batting efforts of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen were among the few positives for SRH against LSG.

Spinner Harsh Dubey has shown glimpses of brilliance in the powerplay and he would be expected to carry on with his form.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will take confidence from their ;dominant head to head record against Punjab Kings with 17 victories out of 24 matches played.

Notably, SRH are unbeaten in their last four games against Punjab Kings.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi blasted another rapid fifty, while Dhruv Jurel played a calm, match-winning hand in a century stand that broke RCB's spirit.

After Sooryavanshi fell, Jurel ensured there were no hiccups, with support from Ravindra Jadeja as RR closed it out comfortably.

RR 202-4 (18 Ovs) vs RCB 201-8 | SCORECARD

Bhuvneshwar Kumar brought back into the attack as the chase edges closer to its finish for Rajasthan Royals.

Dhruv Jurel starts well, picking up a couple of runs before easing another delivery towards long-on for a single. Ravindra Jadeja keeps things ticking with a straightforward single.

There's a brief moment of concern as Jurel appears to struggle with cramp after completing a run and goes down on the pitch. The physio rushes in, but he soon looks ready to continue.

He then benefits from a misfield by Jacob Bethell and adds two more runs. After a quick check on a wide appeal, Jurel continues the over and rotates strike with a single off the final ball.

Seven runs come from it, and after 17 overs, RR are 191/4, needing 11 from 18 balls.

Romario Shepherd continues for Rajasthan Royals.

Dhruv Jurel starts by pulling one to deep mid-wicket for a single, while Ravindra Jadeja keeps things moving with a cut down to deep third for another run.

Jurel then goes big, lofting one towards deep mid-wicket, and although it hangs in the air, it lands safely for a single.

Jadeja rotates strike again, and then Jurel finishes it in style with a six! Rajasthan Royals are right on the brink now.

Just a run needed from there, Jurel calmly taps one to long-on to seal the victory.

A composed finish after losing Sooryavanshi earlier in the chase, with Jurel holding the innings together beautifully.

Rajasthan Royals win by 6 wickets with 2 overs to spare, a significant victory against a strong Royal Challengers Bengaluru side.
