Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson has won the toss and he has elected to bowl first.

RR have brought in Yudhvir Charak in place of Afghan pacer Farooqi, while CSK will field the same XI that played in their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders.

This is RR's last match of the season while CSK have one more game remaining.

Samson said, "We will bowl first. Looking at the last game against DC, there was something in it. There's no hiding in this game. We got to do it today. Everyone has to be a match-winner. We need to be smarter and braver. We have a couple of changes."

CSK skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said, "We want to express ourselves in our batting department. Need to figure out which individual will do well in which slot next year. Need to work on our bowling. Once we were out of the tournament, we wanted to find the answers for the next year. Need to look in to the combination and a couple of players we can pick in auction. We are on a roll in the batting department and we want to continue doing that. When you are constantly under pressure that does np' work. You don't need to play all kind of shots."

Both teams keen to avoid last spot

Welcome to the coverage of the Indian Premier League 2025 match No. 62 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

The first two teams to drop out of playoffs race, only pride will be at stake when they square off in an inconsequential game.

Besides, fans will be excited to watch the face-off between the oldest and the youngest player in IPL history -- the 43-year-old CSK skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and RRs 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

CSK and RR are stuck at the bottom of the points table with six points each, and they will be aiming to end their turbulent campaign on a high to avoid the last spot.

CSK are at number 10, with 3 wins in 12 matches while RR are at number 9, thanks to a slightly superior net run rate. While CSK have one more match remaining, RR will be playing their final game of the season.

CSK are coming into the match with a narrow win over Kolkata Knight Riders and that should give confidence to Dhoni and Co.

RR, on the other hand, will be aiming to end their season with a win after a 10-run defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings.

Despite being a dead rubber, the match offers both teams an opportunity to evaluate their bench strength and strategise for the future.

CSK began their IPL 2025 campaign with a bang, thrashing MI in Chennai by four wickets. But they have had a horrid time ever since, managing to win only two of their next 11 matches.

Their premier foreign recruits Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Mathisha Pathirana, and Sam Curran have failed to meet expectations, while most of the local recruits have struggled to perform consistently.

Against RR, the focus will also be on Dewald Brevis, Ayush Mhatre, and Urvil Patel, who proved their worth after being drafted in as injury replacements.

Afghan mystery spinner Noor Ahmad, who has accounted for 20 wickets in 12 games, will once again be Dhoni's go-to bowler along with the pace duo of Khaleel Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj.

RR, who finished last in the 2020 edition, will look to avoid the wooden spoon once again.

This edition even a midway change in captaincy -- replacing the injured Sanju Samson with Riyan Parag -- did not help them as they faltered due to the batting failures.

The team's batting will once again depend on openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Suryavanshi, who became the youngest to score an IPL hundred at 14 years and 32 days.

Their middle-order batters have been inconsistent in applying finishing touches to matches, leading to a series of close losses. They will be keen to make amends and showcase their true potential one last time.

This will be the 31st IPL match between CSK and RR.

The former have won 16 while RR have emerged triumphant in 14. When they took on each other in Jaipur in the ongoing edition, RR won by 6 runs.
