Pak win toss, opt to field vs NZ

image

Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan flips the coin, and New Zealand's Mitchell Santner makes the call.

Pakistan win the toss and elect to bowl first.

'We've seen in the last couple of matches that the dew sets in later, so we want to maximise that advantage. As defending champions, there's some added pressure, but we'll approach it like we did in the previous tri-series. Also, Haris Rauf is fit again and back in the squad," said Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan.

Kiwis skipper Mitch Santner said, 'The dew comes in later, but we have a job to do with the bat. It looks like a good wicket. We have a solid mix of experience and fresh talent and have been playing well. Having faced Pakistan both home and away, we know each other well. The key is adapting to conditions here in Karachi.'

Can Pakistan conquer NZ on home turf?

image
Pakistan is set to host its first ICC tournament in 29 years, the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Despite internal challenges, cricket remains a vital expression of Pakistani nationalism and global identity.  The nation is buzzing with excitement, though some key figures like Imran Khan have been notably absent from celebrations.

Pakistan, led by Mohammad Rizwan, aims to defend its title and has made some bold selection choices, including an aggressive batting approach.

Their first challenge is New Zealand, who have won their last two encounters and are familiar with the Pakistani venue. However, New Zealand faces significant injury woes, losing key players like Ferguson and Sears.

With the tournament's unforgiving format, both teams face pressure to perform from the start.
