The next ball is again short and Sundar again plays the pull shot but this time straight into the hands of Jamie Overton at deep square leg.

Sundar is dismissed for 26 as India slip to 220/8 in the 68th over.

Mohammed Siraj avoids the short ball as he ducks under and leaves the last ball.

The ball is doing a lot today, with the opening bowlers getting good movement.

Tongue strikes the early blow for England, with the key wicket of Karun, who is dismissed leg before wicket for 57.

Tongue gets his line right as he bowls a cracking inswinger which beats Karun on the inside edge and strikes the pads. He takes the review but the impact is plumb in front as the decision stands.

Gus Atkinson from the other end. Karun defends the first ball into the off-side. He offers no shot to the incoming delivery and is struck on the pads but the leg before shout.

England decide against the review as the impact looks to be quite high.

Karun defends the next few balls on the off-side before he leaves the last ball on length as it sails over the stumps.

A good start by Atkinson, who was pick of the England bowlers on the opening day.

Josh Tongue opens the bowling for England. The first ball is pitched as Karun Nair goes for the drive without any footwork, getting a thick outside edge which flies past the slips for a boundary.

The next ball is a full toss as Karun taps it on the leg side with soft hands for a single.

Tongue gets the ball to swing into Washington Sundar, who was struck into the pads, but it is going down.

He offers no shot to the next ball before he glances the full delivery fine on the leg side for a four and leaves the last ball.

It is a bright, sunny morning at The Oval on Day 2 on Friday. But some rain is forecast for later in the day once again.

'This afternoon will be partly to mostly cloudy with a few well-scattered showers pushing in from the north, turning locally heavy and possibly thundery,' said a forecast from BBC Weather.

The BCCI has announced that Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the squad for the remainder of The Oval Test.

India 203-6 (62 ovs) vs Eng | Scorecard

Welcome to the coverage of Day 2 of the fifth Test between England and India at The Oval in London on Friday.

England gained the upper hand after a rain-hit first day of the final Test as India, needing victory to square the series, battled to 204/6, with all their big guns dismissed cheaply.

Karun Nair batted calmly to finish on 52 not out and Washington Sundar, another centurion last Sunday, was on 19 at the close.

England had to work hard for their breakthroughs and will be delighted to have got rid of K L Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Shubman Gill, the men who have tormented them throughout the summer, though captain Gill gifted his wicket with a suicidal run-out.

Even though there are four days remaining, India's chances of fighting their way into a position where they could force a victory already look extremely slim.

The overcast morning conditions had looked ideal for England's all-seam attack, even without injured captain Ben Stokes, but they lacked a cutting edge.

Gus Atkinson, playing his first match of the series, trapped Yashasvi Jaiswal lbw for two as stand-in captain Ollie Pope finally got on the right side of a DRS review after 14 unsuccessful appeals last year.

Rahul, with over 500 runs to his name from the first four matches, looked relatively untroubled before playing-on to Chris Woakes for 14 as India reached lunch on 72-2.

Gill, averaging over 90 and with four centuries to his name in the series, then inexplicably set off for a non-existent single and was run out by four yards as bowler Atkinson had time to transfer the ball to his right hand before throwing down the stumps.

After a rain-delayed restart, a wayward Josh Tongue, whose first over lasted nine balls and went for 12 runs, finally found his line to nip the edge of Sai Sudharsans bat to dismiss him for 38.

Tongue repeated the feat soon afterwards to remove Jadeja who scored a superb unbeaten century in his teams rearguard action in the fourth test - for nine and India were reeling on 123/5 with their big-hitters all gone, or in the case of Rishabh Pant, absent through injury.

Dhruv Jurel, a ball after overturning an lbw decision against him, then got tucked up by Atkinson and was caught neatly at second slip by Harry Brook for 19.

India ends Day 1 with 204/6

On a bowler-friendly pitch under grey skies, India showed grit to reach 204/6 by stumps, thanks largely to Karun Nair's calm and composed 52.

Jaiswal fell early, Rahul chopped on, and Gill's needless run-out hurt. Sai Sudharsan and Jadeja got starts but failed to kick on.

Nair held firm, stitching useful stands with Jurel and Sundar.

England, despite the conditions, will feel they let India off the hook.
