Welcome to the coverage of the Indian Premier League 2025 match No. 34 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, April 18 2025.
With not much to differentiate between the teams on the points table - both have four wins and two defeats after playing six games each - RCB will be keen to put their home record straight and secure their first win at the Chinnaswamy in IPL 2025.
RCB have won all their four away matches so far, in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, and Jaipur. They, however, lost both their home games against Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals.
RCB are placed third on the points table, thanks to their superior run-rate, while PBKS find themselves a rung below.
They have met each other 33 times in IPL with RCB winning 16 times and Punjab emerging victorious 17 times. However, at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB have a clear edge over PBKS, having won 7 of their 12 encounters.
Both RCB and PBKS will be heading into this clash on the back of impressive wins.
While RCB chased down a 174-run target with nine wickets and 15 balls to spare against Rajasthan Royals in their last game in Jaipur, Punjab successfully defended the lowest total in IPL history (111 runs) against Kolkata Knight Riders at home.
RCB's batting unit, led by Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, Tim David and skipper Rajat Patidar has performed consistently so far, especially in away matches. Their bowling attack, led by Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Krunal Pandya, has also delivered the goods for them.
In both their home matches, RCB were sent in to bat after losing the toss and, on both occasions, they could not go past the 170-mark. Due to the dew factor, the chasing team had it easy on both occasions.
Punjab, on the other hand, flaunt a power-packed top-order, featuring Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and skipper Shreyas Iyer.
Priyansh (216) has the highest strike rate this season among players who have faced at least 50 balls. Shreyas (206) is third on the list.
Punjab's bowling performance, particularly Yuzvendra Chahal's 4/28, was crucial in their thrilling win against KKR.
RCB will be wary of Chahal, who knows the conditions at the Chinnaswamy like the palm of his hand. Chahal, who was a key part of RCB for 8 seasons, is their all-time leading wicket-taker with 139 wickets in 113 matches.
Glenn Maxwell, who has spent three years at RCB, is also expected to be handy on the sluggish surface, where RCB struggled against Gujarat Titans' Sai Kishore (2/22), and Delhi Capitals' Kuldeep Yadav (2/17) and Vipraj Nigam (2/18).
