Santner then hits Gill straight on the pads. The players appeal, umpire unmoved. Latham takes the review and the umpires decision is upheld. Gill survives.

Gill then sweeps the ball to fine leg for a single, the first runs of the day.

Jaiswal then defends next ball and another dot to end the over as just one comes off it.

Ind 16-1 (11 ovs) vs NZ 259 | Scorecard

Good morning and welcome to the updates from Day 2 of the 2nd Test played between India and New Zealand in Pune, on Friday.

Day 1 belonged to Washington Sundar who took a career best seven-wicket haul as New Zealand were dismissed for 259 with half centuries from Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra.

In reply, India lost Rohit Sharma, the skipper bowled by Tim Southee for a nine-ball duck, but Shubman Gill was unbeaten on 10 with Yashasvi Jaiswal six not out at the end of an absorbing day.

The hosts reached 16-1 at stumps on Day 1 and Jaiswal and Gill would look to give the hosts a solid start on Day 2, on a track that will assist spinners while batting will be a challenge.
