NZ 345-7 (81 ovs) vs India 46 | Scorecard

A desperate India take the second new ball immediately as Siraj comes back into the attack.

India lacklustre in the field too. Southee taps Siraj on the off-side straight to Rohit in the covers, whose wild throw back to the keeper gifts the Kiwis four overthrows.

Siraj drops short and Southee easily pulls it over midwicket for his third six to take his score to 49.

Southee almost plays on the last delivery back to the stumps as he uses his feet to push the ball away to safety.

New Zealand in command as they go into the lunch break on 345/7 in 18 overs, for an overall lead of 299 runs.

The session belonged to the visitors, who lost four quick wickets before they bounced back to score 165 runs in 31 overs.

Ravindra played a magnificent knock of 104 from 125 balls, with 11 fours and two sixes -- his second Test century.

Southee also used the long handle to great effect, smashing 49 from 50 balls, with three sixes and as many fours.

The duo put New Zealand on course for a decisive lead as they put on 112 runs from 97 balls for the eighth wicket.

He drives the last ball, a full delivery, down to long-off for a single to take his score to 99.

In the next over, Ravindra sweeps Ashwin for a four to bring up his century in style from 124 balls.

Ravindra continues his fine association with Bengaluru, the city where his parents were born.

He had hit a century against Pakistan in a crucial ODI World Cup match at Bengaluru last year.

Southee guides Ashwin behind point for a four before he uses his feet to launch the spinner over long-on for a six.

Ashwin strays down the leg side as Southee sweeps it fine for another four and then takes a single to make it 20 runs from the over.

The duo also raise the 100-run stand for the eighth wicket from 90 balls.

New Zealand have smashed 48 from the last three overs to take complete control with Ashwin conceding 35 from two overs.
11:17   New Zealand's lead past 250

NZ 302-7 (78 ovs) vs India 46 | Scorecard

Jadeja to bowl his ninth over in a row. The runs are coming fairly easily now with Southee also looking much more comfortable.

The duo easily collect four runs from Jadeja's 19th over, including a leg bye.

New Zealand's lead is past 240 runs -- the largest lead India have conceded in a Test since 2012, when they conceded 207-run lead against England in Kolkata.

This is sensible batting from the Kiwis. A single each to Ravindra and Southee before the former sweeps Ashwin fine for two runs.

Ashwin struggling as he drops it halfway down and Ravindra again quick to rock back and pull the short ball with the whip for a four.

He takes a single before Southee uses his feet to loft the off-spinner straight down the ground for a six as New Zealand go past the 300-run mark.

15 runs from the over as Ashwin continues to leak runs, with figures of 1/74 in 15 overs.

NZ 271-7 (73 ovs) vs India 46 | Scorecard

He clips the last ball to square leg for a single to retain strike.

Ravichandran Ashwin comes into the attack for the first time on Day 3 as he replaces Kuldeep.

Ashwin gifts the well-settled Ravindra a full toss, which he despatches over long-on for a six.

The momentum is firmly back with New Zealand with 26 runs coming from the last three overs.

Rohit does extremely to show urgency as he rushes after the ball from slips and puts in the slide to keep it down to one.

Southee attempts the slog sweep despite fielders being placed at deep midwicket and long-on. He gets it in the gap but not enough power to clear the ropes as they get two runs courtesy of Bumrah's fumble.

Southee is hit on the pads as the leg before appeal is rejected as the ball looks to be going down.

The next ball turns the other way and Southee is beaten on the outside edge this time.

In the next over, Ravindra gives his namesake Ravindra the charge. Jadeja floats it wide as Ravindra does well to get some bat on it, slicing it over the covers for two runs and then takes one.

Southee is beaten off the last ball as he attempts to block.

Ravindra comes down the track to Kuldeep but is hit on the pads by the full delivery. He uses his feet again but this time lofts it straight down the ground for a four to bring up his fifty in some style, from 88 balls.

10:34   Jadeja picks 3rd wkt as NZ collapse

NZ 233-7 (65 ovs) vs India 46 | Scorecard

Henry comes down the track and lofts Jadeja over mid-on for a boundary. The next ball is halfway down as the right-hander rocks back to cut it past point for another four.

However, Jadeja has the last laugh. Henry attempts a big swing across the line but misses the full delivery and is bowled for eight.

The ball went straight on with the angle as Henry played all over it and ended up paying the price.

This has been a good morning session for the Indians. New Zealand have lost four wickets for 53 runs in 15 overs on Day 3 as the hosts inch their way back into the contest.

Matt Henry keeps out the last three balls to end a good over from Jadeja.

Kuldeep continues as India continue to hunt for wickets. Ravindra hits the third ball down to long-off for a single before Henry watchfully keeps out of the rest of the over.

10:18   Bumrah strikes as India fight back

NZ 222-5 (62 ovs) vs India 46 | Scorecard

First bowling change of the day as Ravindra Jadeja comes into the attack in place of Siraj.

Phillips pushes the first ball into the covers and leaves the next which goes straight on and is not that far from the stumps as the Indians are excited.

Phillips looking to force the tempo as he tries to hit Jadeja through the off-side but is beaten before he defends the last ball.

Double bowling change as Kuldeep Yadav comes into the attack from the other end.

There is a huge appeal for leg before wicket against Ravindra as he rocks back to cut Kuldeep and seems to have got the inside edge. The bowler and wicketkeeper believe it was pad first before the ball hit the bat as Rohit takes the review.

It is clearly pad first as Ravindra was late in getting his bat down with the ball hurrying straight on.

The impact is outside the line of the off-stump as the decision stays with umpire Paul Reiffel's original decision.

A big relief for Rohit as India don't lose their last review.

Ravindra gets off strike with a single from the next ball. Phillips is beaten all ends up as he plays back to a full delivery which goes straight on and past the outside edge.

Phillips won't let the bowlers dominate as he clubs the last ball straight back over Kuldeep's head for a straight six.

An early boost for India as Mitchell walks back after scoring 18.

09:34   Pant won't keep wickets on Day 3

NZ 189-3 (54 ovs) vs India 46 | Scorecard

The last ball is halfway down as Ravindra gets into position to pull it square for three runs as the fielder does well to keep the ball inside with a desperate slide.

It won't be long before spinners come into the attack as India need to strike early. If the pacers don't make any impression soon, they could be replaced.

NZ 185-3 (51 ovs) vs India 46 | Scorecard

New Zealand will be hoping to swell the lead through their Ravindra and Mitchell -- two good batters against spin.

Pacer Mohammed Siraj starts off with the ball on Day 3. The first ball is overpitched on the stumps as Ravindra plays a gorgeous flick, easing the ball through midwicket for a four.

The next ball is full but the line is better forcing the left-hander to defend.

He inside edges the third ball on to the pads before he misses the clip as the ball goes off the pads for a leg bye and Mitchell ignores the last ball.

09:18   Pant won't keep wickets on Day 3

NZ 180-3 (50 ovs) vs India 46 | Scorecard

Rishabh Pant won't take the field on Day 3 after injuring his knee yesterday. Substitute Dhruv Jurel went through the morning warm-ups with the gloves.

'Mr Rishabh Pant will not keep wickets on Day 3. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress,' said BCCI.

India skipper Rohit Sharma had revealed that Pant has swelling on his operated knee after taking a hit while keeping wickets.

Pant could not collect a sharply spun ball from Ravindra Jadeja, who bowled from over the wicket, as it slammed on to his knee on the 37th over of the New Zealand's first innings.

He limped out of the field soon, and was replaced by Dhruv Jurel.

That the ball crashed on to the knee cap of his left leg, on which multiple surgeries were performed after that horrific car accident in late 2022, made it look all the more grave.

"It is a precautionary measure. We do not want to take a risk. Rishabh does not want to take a risk because he has gone through a massive surgery on that particular leg," Rohit said.

"So, that was the reason for him to go inside. Hopefully, tonight he can recover and we will see him back on the field tomorrow," added Rohit.

Pant, who made 20, was the top-scorer in India's abysmal innings of 46.

08:55   India eye early wickets on Day 3

NZ 180-3 (50 ovs) vs India 46 | Scorecard

Welcome to the coverage of Day 3 of the first Test between India and New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday.

India will be looking for a few early wickets to get themselves back in the contest after the Kiwis dominated the second day's play on Thursday. The match finally got underway on Day 2 after the entire day's play on Wednesday was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of rain.

India were bundled out for a dismal 46, their lowest total in a home Test, as New Zealand's fast bowlers ran amok in overcast conditions. The visitors continued their domination as they reached 180/3 at stumps, for an overall lead of 134 runs.

Devon Conway played a cracking innings of 91 to set up New Zealand's strong start with the bat. At close, Rachin Ravindra was unbeaten on 22 and Daryl Mitchell on 14 not out.

With the pitch getting difficult for batting because of the uneven bounce and the spinners getting decent turn and bounce.

It is a bright sunny morning in Bengaluru which means the pitch will dry further and break up for the spinners. New Zealand will be looking to continue their positive approach with the bat and stretch their lead in the morning session.

A lead in excess of 200 could prove to be decisive on this pitch.

Earlier, in overcast conditions on a helpful pitch, New Zealand's pacers ran riot as Matt Henry bagged 5/15 while fellow speedster William O'Rourke sparkled in his first match in India with 4/22 to skittle the hosts shortly after lunch.

India were bundled out for their third-lowest test total and the fewest in an innings by any team playing in India, short of the 62 New Zealand had managed against the hosts at Mumbai three years ago.

India's previous lowest total at home was the 75 they made against West Indies in New Delhi in 1987.

India lost their last seven wickets for only 15 runs in one of their worst batting display in recent years.

The Bengaluru crowd had little to celebrate until New Zealand's Tom Latham (15) and Will Young (33) departed, with the loudest roar reserved for the wicket of Conway when he was bowled by Ashwin after hitting the India attack for 11 fours and three sixes.
