Sri Lanka thrash India to win series 2-1

Kuldeep starts his second over with a wide down the leg side to de Silva who sweeps the next for a single.

Hasaranga taps the third ball past point for two runs and pushes the next through the covers for another couple of runs.

Hasaranga slog sweeps the last ball over midwicket for a four to make it 10 runs from the over.

Warrier comes back into the attack. De Silva pulls the first ball for a boundary and then takes a single to the fine leg region.

Birthday boy Hasaranga is gifted five overthrows as he taps the third ball to point and attempts a quick single but the fielder at point goes for the stumps missing it by a long way and also gives up a few easy runs.

A single to de Silva to thirdman before Hasaranga tries to cut the short ball but can't get it off the middle and is beaten last ball as he pokes away from his body.

29 runs from the last three overs as Sri Lanka inch closer to the series win.

Chakravarthy is called back into the attack, with Sri Lanka just one hit away from the victory.

De Silva steers the first ball to short thirdman for a single and Hasaranga gets a thick inside edge as he looks to heave it over the leg side for another run.

Chakravarthy gets the third ball to go straight on as it goes off the pads past the wicketkeeper for two leg byes to level scores.

Chakravarthy gets a wicket to his name as de Silva is caught down the leg side for 23 before he decides to take the review. There is nothing on the UltraEdge as the decision is overturned.

The decision is reversed and umpire Dharmasena calls it a wide as Sri Lanka crush India by seven wickets with 5.3 overs to spare to seal the three-match series 2-1.

Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav comes into the attack. De Silva attempts the reverse first ball but misses before he gets the shot off the bat next ball for a single.

Samarawickrama takes a single next ball and de Silva brings out the sweep for a couple.

He misses the sweep next ball as the leg before shout is turned down with the ball going off the gloves.

Chahar to bowl his final over, with India needing a few quick wickets to keep themselves in the contest.

He drops short as de Silva steers it behind point for a four and then clips the fourth ball square on the leg side for a couple.

Chahar ends his spell with the wicket of Samarawickrama who plays all over a full delivery going straight on and is bowled for six.

Chakravarthy is back into the attack. The first ball is driven through the covers by Samarawickrama for a single.

Dhananjaya de Silva defends the first two balls he faces before he clips the fourth ball to deep midwicket for one and Samarawickrama is unable to get a run off the last two balls.

In the next over, Samarawickrama shuffles across and tries to sweep Chahar but misses and is struck on the pads as the leg before shout is turned down.

India take the review but the decision stays with umpire's call considering the point of impact.

De Silva lofts the next ball over the off-side for a single to long-off and Samarawickrama takes one off the next followed by another run.

Sri Lanka are 42/2 in 10 overs, needing another 40 runs from the remaining 10 overs for victory.

Warrier tries a short ball as Bhanuka pulls it through midwicket for two runs before he ramps the next bouncer over the wicketkeeper for a four.

Warrier goes full but this time he bowls a wide and Bhanuka gets two runs off the next, with the second run coming courtesy of an overthrow.

In the next over, Bhanuka tries to reverse paddle Chahar as he fails to execute it cleanly but gets a single.

Chahar gets the second ball to turn sharply as Samarawickrama is beaten trying to flick it before he gets outside the line and sweeps the next to deep square leg for one.

Chahar strikes again in his next over, as Bhanuka is trapped leg before wicket for 18. The ball went straight on as Bhanuka tried to defend and was struck right in front.

He has a chat with his partner before deciding to take the review. There is no bat involved and the ball is going on to hit the stumps which means the decision stays.

Chahar strikes again as Sri Lanka are reduced to 35/2 in eight overs.

Chahar strikes; SL lose 1st wicket

Debutant Sandeep Warrier comes into the attack, to bowl the fifth over. Fernando defends the first ball before he is hurried into the pull next ball for a single on the leg side.

Bhanuka shuffles across but misses the glance down the leg side before he slaps a short ball square for a single past point.

Warrier generating some good pace in his first over, in which he conceded just two singles.

Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar comes into the attack in place of Chakravarthy.

He makes the breakthrough in his first over with the wicket of Fernando, who is caught and bowled for 12.

The short ball stopped on Fernando as he initially looked to pull before getting it off the bottom of the bat as Chahar dived to his left and came up with a sensational return catch, to bring some smiles back in the Indian camp.

Sadeera Samarawickrama gets an edge off the first ball he faces as Chahar gets it to rip and turn but it lands just short of the slip fielder.

Sri Lanka are 23/1 in six overs, needing another 59 runs from 14 overs for victory.

Bhuvneshwar bowls it full as Fernando drives it straight back past the bowler, beating the fielder at mid-on for three runs.

Bhanuka clips the fourth ball uppishly past midwicket for a couple of runs and then avoids the high bouncer, which is ruled a wide.

Bhanuka shuffles across and works Bhuvneshwar with the angle to fine leg for one before Fernando pushes the last ball into the covers.

Chakravarthy continues with the ball with India unable to strike with an early wicket.

Bhanuka slaps the first ball into the covers for a single before Fernando swivels and pulls a short ball over midwicket for a four and then drives the fourth ball to long-on for a single.

Bhanuka gets a thick outside edge as Fernando calls him for a quick single to short thirdman as he makes the crease easily despite the direct hit.

A single off the last ball as Sri Lanka reach 20 for no loss in four overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to open the bowling for India, who need a few early wickets to get back into the contest.

Avishka Fernando and Minod Bhanuka will look make most of the six overs of Powerplay and score as many as possible.

Fernando defends the first ball from Bhuvneshwar and then takes a single to thirdman to get off the mark.

Some movement for Bhuvi as Bhanuka pokes and is beaten before the pacer bowls a wide.

Bhanuka throws his bat at a wide delivery but misses before he is beaten again, this time by a full delivery which moves away enough to go past the edge.

The last ball swings into the left-hander who is hit on the pads before the leg before shout is turned down.

Leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy from the other end. Bhanuka clips the first ball to square leg for a single to get off the mark and Fernando is happy to bat out watchfully against the spinner as he plays four dot balls in a row before taking a single off the last ball.

Shanaka to bowl the penultimate over. He starts with a wide attempting the bouncer against Kuldeep and pulls the second ball for two runs as he collects a few runs to add respectability to the total.

Kuldeep does well to glance the third ball fine on the leg side for three runs before Sakariya slaps the fourth ball hard into the covers as the fielder fumbles to concede a single.

A single to Kuldeep off the fifth ball before Sakariya pulls the last ball for one, as nine come from the 19th over.

Chameera to bowl the final over. He starts with a bouncer as Sakariya ducks under it with the umpires ruling it a wide for height.

The next ball is a slower ball pitched full and wide as Sakariya has a big go and is beaten before he takes a single off the next.

Kuldeep takes a single to square leg and Sakariya digs out a yorker straight down the ground for one.

Chameera beats Kuldeep with the yorker as the ball narrowly misses the stumps.

Kuldeep comes down the track and has a big swing as he clears the man at mid-off for two runs.

India finish on a lowly 81/8 in 20 overs, with Kuldeep the top-score with 21 not out from 27 balls.

Bhuvneshwar (16) and Gaikwad (14) were the only other batsmen to score in double digits, while three batsmen fell for ducks.

India's top and middle order batsmen came undone against spin, with the innings comprising of 61 dot balls, which means 10 out of the 20 overs were not scored of.

Hasaranga sent the Indians collapsing as he claimed 4/9, while Shanaka took 2/20.

Hasaranga to bowl his final over. He claims his fourth wicket as Varun Chakravarthy is brilliantly caught by Karunaratne at midwicket for a duck.

The umpires have a look but there is no evidence to suggest that the ball was grassed as the fielder completed the catch.

Chetan Sakariya watchfully keeps out the last two balls as Hasaranga ends another good over.

Birthday boy Hasaranga finishes with splendid figures of 4/9 in four overs, as he single-handedly triggered India's collapse with the bat.

Infact, Hasaranga has registered the best figures by a bowler on his birthday in T20 Internationals.

Shanaka drifts down the leg side as Rahul Chahar glances it fine for a four -- the first boundary for India after a long wait of 70 deliveries.

Chahar then attempts to ramp the short ball but is beaten before he gets a leading edge to thirdman for one and Kuldeep takes one on the leg side.

Chahar falls off the final delivery as he miscues the short ball and is caught by wicketkeeper Bhanuka for five. He tries to ramp the bouncer but ends up lobbing a simple catch to Bhanuka as India slip to 62/7 in 16 overs.

Akila Dananjaya to bowl his final over. Bhuvneshwar sweeps the first ball for a single and Kuldeep picks one off the third ball to thirdman.

Bhuvneshwar is then beaten as he tries to lift it over the off-side before taking a quick run.

Kuldeep opens the face of the bat and steers a wide delivery from Akila past short thirdman for two runs as India go past 50, in the 15th over.

Hasaranga, who took 2/6 in two overs, is back into the attack. A single each to Bhuvneshwar and Kuldeep before the former is caught in the covers for 16 as Hasaranga continues his wicket ways.

India's batting nightmare continues as they slip to 55/6 in the 15th over.

Rahul Chahar is struck on the pads first ball but it is going down the leg side as he survives the leg before shout.

Shanaka continues with the ball as Bhuvneshwar takes a single to thirdman from the second ball.

Kuldeep pokes and is beaten again before he takes another run followed by a single to Bhuvi off the last ball.

Sri Lanka racing through their overs as India's batsmen just try to hang as long as possible.

In the next over, Bhuvneshwar shuffles across and tries to paddle Akila fine but wicketkeeper Bhanuka stops it with his left leg.

Good bowling from Akila as he bowls five dots in a row to Bhuvneshwar before the right-hander manages a single from the last ball to avoid the maiden over.

Pacer Karunaratne comes back into the attack. Bhuvneshwar picks a single off the first ball as he initially looks for the second but Kuldeep is not interested.

Kuldeep plays a nice drive through the covers for one before Bhuvi ducks under the bouncer and then top edges the pull for a single.

Kuldeep then pulls a short ball for a couple and blocks out the last ball as India reach 48/5 in 13 overs.

Captain Dasun Shanaka brings himself back into the attack. Bhuvneshwar plays the first two balls with soft hands and then takes a single to fine leg.

Shanaka bowls a good bouncer as Rana ducks under it before the Sri Lanka captain comes up with a stunning one-handed catch on his follow through to send back the Indian left-hander.

Rana walks back for six with India slipping further to 36/5 in nine overs.

It remains to be seen how long India's tailenders last and how more much can they contribute in the remaining 11 overs.

Bhuvneshwar drives Akila Dananjaya into the off-side before he nudges the next on the leg side for one.

Kuldeep Yadav is beaten as he plays away from his body before he takes a single to midwicket to get off the mark and Bhuvneshwar takes a single to long-on.

Hasaranga leaves India in a mess

The Indian top order have been blown away inside the first five overs, thereby exposing the lower order so early in the innings with the visitors fielding just five batsmen.

Nitish Rana drives the second ball to long-off for a single before Bhuvneshwar Kumar pushes Mendis to the covers.

Off-spinner Mendis from round the wicket as Bhuvneshwar drives a full delivery to long-on for one.

Rana collects another easy single and Bhuvi does the same off the last ball  as four runs come from the over, with India struggling on 29/4 at the end of six overs of Powerplay.

Another close shave for India as non-striker Rana comes rushing for a quick run and is sent back just in time by Bhuvneshwar, who had tapped Hasaranga to midwicket.

Leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga comes into the attack. Gaikwad clips the first ball to midwicket for a single before Sanju Samson is beaten by a beauty, sharp turn which beats the outside edge.

Samson defends the next before he is trapped leg before wicket for a three-ball duck.

Samson looks to flick it across the line which he misses and is struck plumb in front as the right-hander walks back without a review.

Things going from bad to worse for India. Gaikwad leans forward to defend but is beaten by the googly and is struck on the pads to be given out leg before wicket for 14.

Gaikwad takes the review but the umpire's decision stands as the ball tracker shows that the ball is clipping the top of the stumps.

Gaikwad taps the first ball of Chameera's second over to point for a quick single.

The next ball is slanted across left-hander Padikkal, who pokes away from his body and is beaten and then blocks the next.

Chameera tries the bouncer which Padikkal ducks under and is then beaten trying to ramp it over the slips.

He keeps strike with a single from the last ball as Chameera concedes just two singles in his third over.

Off-spinner Ramesh Mendis comes into the attack. Padikkal drives the second ball to long-off for a single and Gaikwad sweeps the next for a four past short fine leg before the spinner bowls a wide.

Gaikwad takes a single to square leg and Padikkal lofts the fifth ball down the ground for a couple as the fielder at long-off puts in the dive to stop the boundary.

Padikkal's struggle ends as he looks to sweep Mendis but misses and is trapped leg before wicket after scoring nine from 15 balls. However, he also perishes run out after being sent back halfway down with India losing their second wicket.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shikhar Dhawan are the two openers for India, while Dushamantha Chameera will bowl the first over for the Lankans.

Gaiwad defends the first ball before he drives the next through the covers for a four as the fielder lets it go through and the right-hander then takes a single.

Chameera gets the big wicket of Dhawan, who is caught in the slips for a first-ball duck.

Devdutt Padikkal offers no shot to the last two balls to end a good first over from Chameera.

Chamika Karunaratne to bowl from the other end. Gaikwad pushes the first ball into the covers for a single and Padikkal drives the second through the covers, hitting uppishly but in the gap for a four to get off the mark in some style.

He throws his bat at a wide delivery for a single to thirdman and Gaikwad picks one to square leg.

Padikkal cuts a short ball but can't get it past point and nudges the last ball to short fine leg.

India elect to bat; Warrier included


With only five specialist batsmen in their XI, India will look towards their top order to lay the foundation with a big partnership.

Dhawan believes India's bowling is quite strong and is confident of defending any total the batsmen come up with.

"Navdeep Saini suffered a left shoulder injury while fielding during the second T20I vs Sri Lanka on 28th July. He might have to undergo scans to ascertain the extent of injury. His progress is being monitored by the medical staff," said BCCI on Saini's injury.

Pacer Sandeep Warrier makes India debut

India captain Shikhar Dhawan has won the toss and elected to bat against Sri Lanka in the third and final T20 International in Colombo.

India, already depleted by loss of several of their key players, have suffered another blow as pacer Navdeep Saini is ruled out with injury. His place is taken by Tamil Nadu fast bowler Sandeep Warrier, who makes his international debut.

Sri Lanka have also made one change as Pathum Nissanka comes in for Isuru Udana.

India aim to bounce back after loss


Welcome to the coverage of the third and final T20 International between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo on Thursday.

India, missing several of the top players, will be aiming to bounce back after their defeat in the second match and win the T20I series to complete a double having triumphed in the ODI series earlier this month.

After all-rounder Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, India's eight players including Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Deepak Chahar, Manish Pandey, Ishan Kishan, and Krishna Gowtham - who were identified as close contacts were forced to go into isolation, resulting in them missing the last two T20Is.

India were restricted to a modest 132/5 with skipper Shikhar Dhawan top-scoring with 40.

The hosts then chased down the target with four wickets in hand and two balls to spare with Dhananjaya de Silva hitting match-winning unbeaten 40 to level the three-match series at 1-
