Sachin Tendulkar has been ruled out of next week's Irani Trophy match after failing to fully recover from his elbow injury.

The master batsman, who was due to make a comeback for the Rest of India team against Ranji Trophy champions Delhi following an injury lay-off, underwent a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore on Friday and was advised more rest.

Tendulkar injured his left elbow during the Test series in Sri Lanka which also forced him to miss the preceding ODI series in the island nation.

The 35-year-old was told to rest for another week so that he can be fully fit for the first Test against Australia in Bangalore, beginning on October 9.

Anil Kumble will lead Rest of India against Delhi in the five-day tie, at Vadodara from September 24 to 28.
