All-rounder Andrew Symonds has vowed to regain his place in the Australia team after being dropped for disciplinary reasons.

Symonds was axed for the one-day series against Bangladesh in Darwin this month after he missed a team meeting and went fishing. He was not selected for the tour of India starting next week because of the indiscretion.

"I'm going through the process of trying to improve and become not only a better cricketer but a better person," Symonds told reporters at a training session for his state side Queensland in Brisbane on Tuesday.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge of taking up cricket again for my club, state and country, hopefully.

"I apologise for some of the things I've done over the last little bit, and hopefully I'll come out of it a better person and not make those mistakes in the future."
