Probe selection meeting leak: Pataudi

Former India captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi has recommended a probe into the selection committee meeting 'leak', which claimed that Mahendra Singh Dhoni had offered to resign as captain following R P Singh's exclusion from the team.

It was reported that Dhoni had a heated argument with the selectors over RP's exclusion from the team for the fourth and fifth ODIs against England and he even offered to quit as captain if his demands were not met.

Pataudi said the episode was akin to the 'leak' of Greg Chappell's e-mail, which had some strong words against former captain Sourav Ganguly.

"The leak is like the Sourav Ganguly one and this should not happen. I think it must be stopped. If the BCCI wants to have an inquiry, then I would certainly recommend it," Pataudi said.

Dhoni had described the whole episode as 'disgusting', neither denying or confirming the reports.

Pataudi, meanwhile, backed Dhoni for his stand and said even he would have reacted similarly.

"I think Dhoni had the right to be annoyed and I think he has put forward his views fairly clearly. The nation has understood that Dhoni was annoyed because there was a leak not because 'A' player was selected and 'B' wasn't,'' Pataudi told ESPN-STAR Sports.

He also advocated that the captain should take the final call while having to decide on two players of equal calibre.

"When two players are equal then it should be a captain's choice," he said, but was against the captain being given voting power.
