G Vignesh slammed a scintillating half century and claimed two wickets as India XI lifted the ICL 20s World Series title beating World XI by 10 runs in Hyderabad on Tuesday night.
The Indian side posted 148 for eight wickets in their 20 overs and then restricted their rivals to 138 for five to chalk out a 10-run win.
Vignesh's 43-ball 57, which included five hits to the fence and three sixes, and his two-wicket haul earned him the Man of the Match award.
For the World XI, Damien Martyn struck 60 off 48 balls with the help of 10 fours and a six but apart from Lou Vincent (28), no other batsman could really make a mark as the side fell short of its target.
Earlier, the India XI got off to a flying start after captain R Satish decided to bat first.
Openers Ibrahim Khaleel (34, 33ball, 6x4) and in-form Vignesh went after the World XI bowlers and scored at a brisk rate. They put on 76 runs inside 10 overs when Khaleel fell to Matthew Elliot.
Surprisingly, once Khaleel departed, the Indian XI batsmen could not maintain the tempo. In fact only Stuart Binny (13) and T Kumaran (10 not out) could make a double digit.
For the World XI, Upul Chandana and Andrew Hall scalped two wickets apiece.
