Sourav Ganguly has been ruled of the second one-day international against Australia in Kochi after being asked to rest his hamstring injury.

The left-hander suffered a hamstring injury on his right leg during the rain-abandoned first match in Bangalore on Saturday. He tried to stop a ball during the Australian innings when he pulled up clutching his right hamstring and walked off the field.

An MRI scan performed on the right hamstring on Sunday morning confirmed that there is no injury to the region (neither soft tissue swelling/oedema, muscle fibre tears or any similar derangements), the BCCI said in a statement.

However, it was decided in consultation with physio John Gloster that the veteran batsman needs to be given some rest so that he can recover quickly.
