The third day of the second Test between England and West Indies was abandoned without a single delivery bowled at Headingley on Sunday.
England had been in control of the match after two days, scoring 570 for seven before bowling West Indies out for 146 and then reducing them to 22 for two when following on.
West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan is almost certainly not going to bat because of a shoulder injury.
The wash-out means that the England and Wales Cricket Board will have to refund 450,000 pounds to the spectators who were due to attend the sold-out match.
Kevin Pietersen smashed the highest Test score for England in 17 years on Saturday as the home side dominated the West Indies throughout day two.
Pietersen was the last man out for 226 when captain Michael Vaughan declared on 570 for seven an hour before tea.
The West Indies then capitulated and trail England by 402 runs.
Ryan Sidebottom, without a wicket in his only other Test in 2001, took four for 42 and Liam Plunkett three for 35.
