Keeping in mind that some players are unfit and ill, the Indian team management has requested Saurashtra Cricket Association, hosts of the ongoing second One-Day International between India and Sri Lanka at Rajkot, to provide two of its players for fielding in emergency.

"We've received a request from the Indian team management for the services of two local players and we have provided two junior players from Saurashtra, namely Virendra Vegda and Vishal Vasoya, who will field for Team India in the event of an emergency," Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Niranjan Shah, who is also secretary of the SCA, rediff.com just before the India captain Rahul Dravid and his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahela Jayawardane went out for the toss.

Both Vegda and Vasoya are rated high by former Saurashtra players and they were visibly delighted to be sitting in the Indian team's dressing room along with the many stars they have grown up admiring.

It is learnt that the SCA wanted to provide two current Ranji Trophy players to Team India, but then the state side is currently in Mumbai for the West Zone one-day Ramakant Desai Trophy. So two junior cricketers had to be pressed into service.
