The Punjab-Baroda Ranji Trophy tie in the Super League Group B was heading for a draw, with the visitors having scored 251 for the loss of one wicket on a rain hit penultimate day of the four-day match at Gandhi Grounds in Amritsar on Tuesday.

Replying to Punjab's 496 for eight declared, Baroda, the group leaders, made a solid start with openers C Williams hitting an unbeaten ton and Satyajit slamming 80 in a 124-run opening wicket stand.

With Williams playing the sheet anchor role, Satyajit slammed the Punjab bowlers including VRV Singh and Gagandeep all around the ground. His 80 runs in a 124-run opening wicket stand were compiled off just 87 balls with 16 hits to the fence.

Satyajit fell between lunch and tea, leg before wicket to spinner Manpreet Goni.

Williams completed his century in the company of Azhar Bilakhia after the tea interval. His unbeaten knock of 106 runs was studded with 17 boundaries and came off 218 balls and in 296 minutes.

Bilakhia, who was giving Williams company at the draw of stumps had scored 47 with the help of six hits to the fence. The two have so far put on an unbeaten 127 runs for the second wicket.

The match which commenced late due to the wet outfield was stopped twice following mild showers. Just 73 overs were possible as play was called off half an hour before the scheduled closing due to poor light.

Earlier Punjab declared their innings before play commenced this morning. The hosts were hoping that their medium pacers VRV Singh and Gagandeep would be able to exploit the overcast conditions and create problems for the Baroda batsmen.
