The visiting Baroda team on Tuesday thrashed host Uttar Pradesh's team by 48 runs on the final day of the super league Elite group 'B' Ranji Trophy match in Lucknow.
Chasing a victory target of 274 runs, the hosts, who were sitting pretty till Monday evening with 58 runs without loss, failed to take advantage of the situation and were bundled out at 225 runs - 50 minutes after lunch, at the Akhilesh Das stadium.
With this win, Baroda collected five points, accumulating their overall tally to 14 after three matches, while UP remained on 8 points from four matches. UP will meet Bengal in thier next encounter from December 17 at Kolkata.
UP resumed their innings at 58 without loss with not out batsmen Rohit and Tanmay.
Skipper Mohd Kaif started confidently but lost his cool hitting hard to Rajesh Pawar's delivery towards square leg where Rakesh Solanki held him. he faced 94 deliveries for his 37 runs, which included 3 bounderies.
Suresh Raina (20) also failed to live upto the expectations of the team. At lunch time UP had scored 168/8.
After lunch break, a late burst by tailender Praveen Gupta (50) entertained the crowd. Gupta, with his hard hitting display studded with six boundaries and one six over long on, along with Sudeep Tyagi added 40 valuable runs for the last wicket.
Yusuf Pathan, who claimed five wickets in the first innings added four in the second innings taking his match tally to nine wickets. His younger sibling Irfan chipped in with two wickets. Uttar Pradesh innings ended at 225.
