Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene by adding 624 runs for the third wicket in the Colombo Test against South Africa established and broke many records. We take a look:

This is now the highest partnership for any wicket in all first-class cricket obliterating the previous highest of 577 runs for the fourth wicket between Vijay Hazare and Gul Mahomed for Baroda v Holkar in 1946-47. Incidentally the previous highest partnership for the third wicket was of 467 runs between Andrew Jones and Martin Crowe for New Zealand against Sri Lanka at Wellington in 1990-91.
