Inzamam wins Pakistan's Cricketer of the Year award

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has been selected as the Cricketer of the Year and wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal as the Emerging Player of the year 2005, Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Tuesday.

"It is a unanimous decision of the committee that Inzamam and Kamran stood out between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2005 not only by their performance but also by conduct and the inspiration they were for their team. The two are also presently the most popular Pakistani cricketers," Chairman of the award selection committee Tariq Wasim Ghazi, who is also the Defense Secretary, told a news conference.

Inzamam, in eight Tests, scored 1,000 runs with four centuries and six half-centuries while in 23 one-dayers, he aggregated 874 runs at 54.63 that also included nine half-centuries.

Kamran, who stroked a face-saving century against India in the ongoing Test, played nine Tests in the last year in which he scored 550 runs at 34.38 besides accounting for 41 batsmen behind the wickets.

In the one-day arena, he scored 569 runs from 21 games at 33.47 besides being involved in 21 dismissals.

The award also includes Rs 500,000 (USD 8,300) for Inzamam and Rs 200,00 (USD 3,300) for Akmal.
